Robust Network, Dimapur in collaboration with The Indian Council For Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, successfully organised a grand Cultural Show titled Horizon Series Cultural Programme to commemorate the 8th Bamhum Day with performances by various artistes on May 3 from 6.30 pm at Soul Speak Studios Hall, Nuton Bosti, Dimapur. The first artiste to perform was Achen Imchen, a top six finalist of the 1st Naga Idol performed two of his indigenous songs who also played the Bamhum during the solo breaks.
The next to go onstage was Abiogenesis, a band empanelled by Indian Council For Cultural Relations (ICCR) and has been sent by ICCR to Myanmar. Thailand and Bhutan to perform. Bamhum was invented by a band member of Abiogenesis, Moa Subong . Abiogenesis presented the first ever Bamhum songs composed by them like Saramati Tears, Misty Dzuko, Wah! Taj and Hitch Hiker all from their first album Aeon Spell released by an Indian major label Saregama, which was listed for nominations in the 50th Grammy Awards. Arenla, the front lady of Abiogenesis said that advent of bamhum brought about Howeymusic, a fusion of Naga music with various genres of music. A young upcoming rock band from Dimapur, ‘Gentlemen and Slippers’ presented few numbers.
A minute silence was observed in respect of late Shri. Norman Putsure, IAS, the then Team Leader of Nagaland Bamboo Development. Agency (NBDA) who came forward and initiated the unveiling ceremony of the Bamhum by the then Governor of Meghalaya, Shri M.M. Jacob during the International Bamboo festival at Shillong on May 3rd, 2005 which was sponsored and organized by NDBA. He also suggested the name Bamhum when it was initially called Bamboo Hum. Mr. Moa Subong, the inventor of Bamhum mentioned that Mr. Norman’s contribution will always be cherished and remembered. Comments on the Bamhum by Late Norman Putsure and Gugs Chishi, Project Director, Nagaland Music Task Force were screened by the LCD projector.
Since it was mainly a gathering of renowned musicians from Dimapur, a jam session followed right after the Horizon series programme where musicians got to meet each other and played and jammed together for two hours.
