Aids distributed to DNA clubs at Tangla
A meeting of DNA club schools of Udalguri district was held at RC Saharia Teachers Training College,Tanga on April 30 last,where the annual grants for the DNA club programme was distributed to 11 such schools.The programme was organised by Dipankar Saharia,Coordinator TERI (The Energy & Research Institute) North eastern Regional Centre. It needs mention that TERI NE has initiated a science popularisation programme named DNA (Department of Biotechnology's Natural Resource Awareness) clubs.The project is sponsored by Department of Biotechnology,Government of India.The prime objective of the project is to promote deeper awareness about bio resources and to enthuse students about role of bio technology in their sustainable utilisation specially in the Northeast region.
According to Dipankar Saharia,the project aims to propagate science education through hands on activities,laboratory experiments,field visits,invited lectures,competetions and audio video shows.To facilitate these activities laboratories were established in 361 high schools in NE states with facilities like -Microscope (13 each), binocular,refrigerator,herbarium press lab and field model,her barium cabinet,computer with printers (2 each) and digital camera worth rupees two lakhs along with annual financial gran of Rs.34,300. More over the project is targeted to benefit class VI to X students and teachers.
Attending the programme as the chief guest,noted woman activists of the state Mridula Saharia requested principals and teachers to utilize fund and materials properly so as to benefit rural students.Social.Social worker Kamakhya Barman presided over the meeting while Satyen Chakravorty,Principal,RC Saharia B Ed College,Tangla anchored the proceeding of the meeting.

A minor girl dead and dozen others fell ill after they consumed prasad served at a religious function in Udalguri district on Friday. The tragic incident took place in Kalaigaon area where a ten year old girl died early in the morning. At least 71 others have complained of stomach ace and vomitting hours after they consumed prasad. The deceased was identified as Dipsikha Nath who died at the Mangaldai Civil Hospital. Talking to media, ADC DN Hazariaka said that the incident took place hours after they consumed prasad at the house of Harakanta Nath on Wednesday.
