The Diaspora from Assam that call the UAE home is all set to celebrate Rongali Bihu in a grand way on the 6th of April in the glitzy desert city of Dubai. The event is a formal culmination of festivities that take place in various households in the community. No wonder, it is a much awaited event for all those who yearn for the magic of Bihutolis at this time of the year.
It was the year 1999 when the UAE first witnessed Rongali Bihu celebrations in an organised way. With each passing year the celebrations have grown in scale and grandeur thanks to the tireless efforts and active participation from each and every member of the diaspora. Rehearsals for the big day are underway in many households and everyone is eager to put his/her best foot forward as it is a rare opportunity in a foreign land to showcase the cultural mosaic that is Assam.
Over the years acclaimed artistes from the Assamese music and tinsel world have graced the Bihu celebrations in the UAE and this year is no exception. Singing sensation Dikshu (Sharma) and the talented Priyanka Bharali will be the star attractions and fans here are eagerly anticipating a virtuoso performance from the duo.

A Delhi court on Tuesday granted bail to sacked Assam education minister Ripun Bora, Delhi Based businessman Ramesh Maheswari and journalist Mukul Pathak who were arrested by CBI on June 2 charging them with trying to bribe one of its officials.According to information, hearing the bail petition on Tuesday Judge RK Yadav at the Patiala House they were granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 3 lakh each. The Gauhati High Court on Tuesday ordered exemption of ULFA leader Dibakor Moran from the National Security Act. A division bench of the Court comprising Chief Justice J Chalemeswar and Justice Ashok Putsangbash was hearing a petition filed by Maran’s family members challenging the arrest of Dibakor under the NSA. The order for arresting Dibakor under the NSA was issued by Tinsukia Deputy Commissioner D K Dwivedi.
