Arsenic which is formed in heavy quality in the ground level water of Sivasagar and Nazira makes the people worry. Now the Govt. is trying to create awareness among the people and take some preventive measures.
Under the guidelines of ‘National Rural Drinking water quality monitoring and survillance programme the Public Health and Enginerring Department of Sivasagar and Nazira is conducting a few awareness camps in different places.
At Santak and Bihubor where two water project were sealed by the PHED Nazira for presence of heavy quantity of arsenic. Govt. is now planning to setup a arsenic -tretment plant there.
One Hari Urang (19) of Galekey Modi Nagar tea estate was killed by Surash Nayak at Galekey Chariali on january 2. Later, Galekey Police arrested the murderer.
According to the Sarbashikha Abhijan Misson, addmission for the students of class I to class VIII is totally free. However, the Nazira HSMP School is charging from every students - Rs.200 for addmission in class I and Rs.500 for class VIII, without giving any receipt. Well-known artist of Sivasagar district Lakhi Baruah died at his home at Lankak Gohain Gaon at 7 A.M. on Sunday. He was around 75 years old and was survived by his wife, a doughter and a son. Many organisations of Sivasagar district condoled in his death.

The State Election Commission has declared the time schedule of Panchayat Election 2013. Poling will be held on 3 phases - 30th Janurary, 6th Feburary and 12th Feburary. Result will be declared on 14th & 15th Feburary. This time a total of 1 Crore 27 Lakh 56 Thousand 804 nos. of voters of the state will cust their vote for total 420 nos. Zilla parishad, 2202 nos. Anchalik Panchayat, 2202 nos. Gaon Panchayat President and 22020 nos. Gaon Panchayat Members Seats of Assam. According to the E.C. this panchayat election will cost around 70 crore rupees. Electrol rule will enforce in the state from Tuesday.
Dead body of a forester (grade-1) Thaneshwar Borah was found under the Silasaku Bridge, Garmur of Nazira. Borah was working as a forester of Bihubor Beat Office, Nazira and he was returning home by his own motor cycle (AS04 G4209) at 7 P.M. On November 16, but he did not reach home. Local people found his dead body at 5 A.M. On November 17 and informed the nearest police station at Simaluguri.
The 15th annual convention of All India Youth Federation's Sivasagar district committee was held at Nazira MC Club on December 15.
