Revive Brahmaputra Board to prevent floods and erosion: Gogoi tells Manmohan


Assam Government has requested the Central Government to revive the Brahmaputra Board to prevent floods and erosion. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi today met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Railway minister Dinesh Prasad Trivedi and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in this regard.


Gogoi met Prime Minister for 20 minutes at the North Block office on Tuesday and asked him for additional funds for the State.


"There are several plans. I have asked the Prime Minister for Duranto Train from Guwahati to Mumbai and Guwahati to Chennai in the next Rail Budget. We have also asked for moderisation of Guwahati, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Bongaingaon railway stations," he said after meeting the Prime Minister.


"The wagon factory and locomative factories need to be upgraded. I donot know waht Assam will get but I have asked the Prime Minister to issue to note to Railway Minister for this. We hope for the best," Gogoi said when asked about the possibilities of the package.


"I have also asked the Prime Minister to revive the Brahmaputra Board so that we can prevent floods and erosion. As Arunachal Pradesh has not been a partof NERWA, we have decided to go ahead with the Brahmaputra Board.


"I have also asked the Prime Minister for rehabilitation of the surrendedred militants. We have a plan for vocation training packae for them. There are more than 3 lakh surrendered militants now and we cannot recruit all of the in force. We have decicded to rehabiltae them in a new scheme."


Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi also met Railway Minister at 3.30 pm and raised some issues.
