KAAC polling ends; counting on Jan 9


Polling for 26-member Karbi Anglong Autonomous District Council concluded on Wednesday afternoon with a moderate turnout. The voting started at 7 in the morning in 798 polling centres of the hill district.


Over 5 lakh 86 thousand electorates of the tribal-dominated district are eligible to exercise their franchise to elect their representatives among 128 contesting candidates. All major political parties including the ruling Congress, Asom Gana Parishad, CPI (ML) and BJP have fielded their candidates for the polls conducted by State Election Commission.


Altogether 36 companies of Para-military forces besides the State police and Home Guards have been deployed in the hill district for smooth conduct of the election.
