1st Bodo National Conference begins at Udalguri


The First session of the Bodo National Conference (BNC) has begun at Udalguri with gaiety.The BNC delegates’ session which was started in the evening on November 18, was inaugurated by Biswajit Daimari, Member of the Parliament (RS)..Kampa Borgoyary, Deputy Chief of BTC and chief convenor of the umbrella organization told a section of the media persons here at the venue of the first conference of the BNC today on the first day of the two day long BNC conference that Bodo National Conference (BNC) has been formed for unity and permanent peace among the Bodos.


Borgoyari also detailed the resolutions taken in the crucial executive meeting held juct before the delegates session and said that the executive body of the umbrella organization accepted the withdrawal of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB-P) from the BNC and said that the BNC would always look for greater unity of the Boros for the greater interest of development and stopping of fratricidal killings in the Bodoland region. However he maintained that it would welcome the NDFB(P) version to support the BNC from outside and declared that “the outfit(NDFB-P) is not a member of BNC now onwards.” He also informed the media persons that all these issues will be discussed in detail in the delegates’ session to beheld this evening where delegates from more than 23 Bodo organizations are taking part.


On the other hand, Anjali Daimari, convenor of BNC told the media persons that the BNC was believed to be working in the right track to herald permanent peace and unity among the various Bodo organizations. According to her,they have supported the peace initiative of the NDFB(P)and also of the NDFB led by Ranjan Daimari as they had saught permanent solution of the imbroglio plaguing the Bodo society.But she also said that the BNC alone could not solve all the problems. Daimari also informed that the BNC would soon meet the concerned authority of the Union Government in New Delhi to chalk out the peace process with the rebel Boro organizations after the BNC conference which would surely bring a good information to all of us.Significantly, Bhramon Baglari, a senior leader of UDPF informed that his party would never support the BNC as it did not support the demand for a separate Bodoland.

In another tragic incident a 40 years old wild makhna elephant has been eletrocuted near SSB camp at Samrang in Udalguri district in the night of October 24. According to information the elephant died on spot after it had come in to contact of loosely erected un authorised electric wires. All such loose electric lines have been causing threat to wild elephants as well as people. So far four wild elephants lost lives in Udalguri district in 2014.

In a very tragic incident wild elephants killed Karlina Shal (55) and her daughter Jyoti Shal (7) last night at Deepa basti village near Kundarbil at around 2.30 am on September 7. On the other hand two of her grandsons were also injured by the wild herd. According to information the family members tried to escape but a wild makhna of the herd had killed mother and daughter on spot after damaging their houses.So far 18 people have been killed by wild elephants while 2 wild elephants also lost lives in the district in 2014 alone.

It was a national news when 7 elephants were mowed down by a high speed goods train on the 23rd of September 2010 in the 'Elephant Corridors' of North Bengal. Three female, three calves and one tusker was killed. A lactating mother was dragged on the tracks for more than three hundred meters before the train finally came to a halt !! Army deployed in Udalguri district have nabbed one hard-core ULFA militant at Tangla during evening hours on August 19. Acting on a tip-off the Army troops from Borrengajuli camp launched a joint operation with the police in which a listed ULFA cadre was apprehended.The operation took place near the busy market place of Tangla. The arrested cadre has been identified as Khagen Deka (45).One 7.65 mm revolver and two live ammunition have been recovered from the apprehended militant.
