AASU in talk with Dispur on NRC

The Assam government talks to the All Assam Students’ Union leaders on Friday in Dispur before clearing the modalities to update the National Registrar of Citizens (NRC).

Speaking to Assam Times, senior officials here say chaired by principal secretary with home and political department, the meeting is attended by AASU adviser Dr Samuzzal Bhattacharjee, president Sankar Prasad Ray and General secretary Tapan Kumar Gogoi and other top ranked leaders.

The students’ body has already submitted its proposals before Dispur anmd Delhi citing the acceptable modalities for updating the NRC.

An all party meeting gave the government go-ahead to draft the modalities to update the NRC with 1971 as the cut off year and the Assam Accord implementation department has completed the draft.

After being cleared, the department will hand over the draft to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on October 31 for his needful action.

Notably, the government is working out the decision to update NRC taken at the tripartite meeting in New Delhi on May 5, 2005 in presence of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.

GUWAHATI: The Assam Government on Wednesday strikes a significant deal with the State Bank of India to grant home loans for its employees.Speaking to Assam Times, official sources here say the agreement was signed at a meeting held at the Chief Minister’s office by finance secretary Santanu Mukherjee and SBI manager for the north eastern region Atanu Sen in full view of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.According to the pact, the SBI will grant loans to the Assam government employees for building new houses, buying flats, and renovation of old houses at a minimum rate.
