Concern over irregular train services

Irregular running of trains following frequent derailment in between Lumding-Badarpur hill section of NF Railway caused utter inconvenience among the traveling passengers of entire southern Assam.

On July 15th, one down goods train derailed at 103/9-104, near Lower Haflong,on July 18th another down goods train derailed at 102/5-3 near Lower Haflong again on July 22 goods train derailed at 117/5-6 near Jatinga then on July 24 a goods train parted near Mupa resulting to abnormal late running of passengers train and passenger were stranded at Stations like Lower Haflong, Maibang etc for hours together.

One Gopal Acharjee, a retired railway man disclosed that now a day the maintenance of the railway track is being done by the contractors not by the railway gang men therefore there is every possibility of lacking in maintenance of the MG. More over, the officials are also not experienced working in Hill section particularly this Lumding –Badarpur hill section of NF Railway which has peculiarity in its engineering skill. People alleged, the railway is not giving due attention to the proper maintenance of the century old MG as BG is being constructed, and perhaps for this reason, this heritage MG line is not getting importance from the railway authority.

The people of Dima Hasao in particular and the people of Bark Valley suggested that since the fate BG is uncertain as it is evident from repeated announcement of target period of completion of the BG, the railway should give importance in proper maintenance of this MG line. This step of the railway could save its huge loss incurred due to frequent accidents etc. and also lessen passengers’ sufferings.
