Assam Cong must steal the show: Moily

AICC’s new in charge for Assam Veerappa Moily draws a slew of strategies to boost the morale of the partymen before the upcoming panchayat polls.

The senior leader held a few meetings with Assam Congress topguns during his two-day long trip to the state which ends on Saturday.

Talking to Assamtimes, senior leaders here at the Rajiv Bhawan say Mr Moily stresses a comfortable co-odination within the party’s organisational set up which will help the party steal the show in the upcoming polls.

“Mr Moily aims at mending the difference between Dispur and the Rajiv Bhawan. He has passed an instructions to the ministers to visit the party office atleast thrice a month,” they say.

He makes it plain that he has no plans right now to make any major changes in the state’s party orgainsational set up.

Before leaving back to New Delhi, the Congress veteran toured a few Upper Assam district with state Congress heavyweights and assessed the party’s position.

Addressing press conference before wrapping up his trip, the veteran leader said he was satisfied with the performance of the Tarun Gogoi government but in the same breath said he would buy more time to understand the actual picture of development.

He said Assam topped the states due to the appropriate implementation of the Right to Information Act.
“With 5.59% GDP, the state is setting a record in revenue collection which stands at Rs 9,715 crore which was Rs 4,213 crore during the time of Prafulla Kumar Mahanta,” he said.

He further, hold talk with Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday evening the latter’s official residence at the Koinadhara and reviewed the implementation of the party’s poll manifesto.

He suggested Mr Gogoi to review the poll promises once in a period of three or four months.

Addressing a party meeting at the Sankardev Kalakshetra just after his arrival, Mr Moily said, “Chief Minister Mr Gogoi and president Bhubneswar Kalita must work together and I will observe all these.”

He further stressed the party’s increasing strength in the grass root level saying,” new faces must be there in the party. We must know why and under what circumstances somebody leaves the party. Mr Kalita must submit a detail report once in a year.”

The meeting was attended by president Kalita, Chief Minister Gogoi, Union minister Santosh Mohan Dev.

Mr Moily returned to New Delhi on Saturday evening.
