12 hours Dima Hasao Bandh o n July 18
The Autonomous State Demand Committee, Dimasa Students’ Union, ASDC Mahila sangthan and Dimasa Women Society have called 12 hours Dima Hasao Bandh on July 18th (Monday), 2011 next from 5 AM to 5 PM with the demand of immediate release of Sri Mohet Hojai, Ex- CEM of the Autonomous Council and others from judicial custody, who are still in confinementunder NIA case No. 01/09 and 02/09.
The Services like supply of water, milk, electricity and health services are however exempted from the purview of the Bandh.
Talking to this correspondent, Rathindra Thaosen, ASDC Dima Hasao Dist. Committee disclosed that they were not at all in favour of bandh culture but they were being compelled to call this bandh because the governments were not paying any heed to their grievances and demands in spite of repeated approaches. It is to be mentioned here that several organizations had earlier submitted memoranda and even staged dharna but the government was yet to feel it necessary to address their demands. They appealed to all the people irrespective of caste, creed, religion and status of Dima Hasao to co-operate with the bandh to make it a grand success.

Police recovered a Chinese grenade from Essar Petrol Pump here at Haflong this morning which was kept near oil lifting machine. Mentioned may be made here that the Essar pump is belonged to Niramal Langthasa, youngest son of the Local MLA Sri G. C. Langthasa. This pump is situated adjacent to the residence of the MLA. Demanding immediate resumption of ‘Hill Queen Express’, several organizations of Maibang like Youth Council for Development, Dishru Cultural Club, J. B. Hagjer Club, Dimasa Women Society, Maibang Sports Association etc and people from Kalachand organized 100 hours Rail Blockade from 6 AM of February 25 at Maibang Railway station.
They had earlier on February 7 submitted a memorandum to the Divisional Railway Manager, Lumding for the restoration of the ‘Hills Queen Express running in between Lumding – Lower Haflong. During the 2nd Day of the 100 hours NCHills Bandh suspected bandh supporters remove fish plate of the railway track near Lower Haflong Rly Station at about 2.50 PM resulting to the derailment of down goods train bound for Badarpur with no injury to any person.
Railway personals and police rush to the spot to restore the communication. It is to be mentioned here that the railway authority had earlier suspended all the passenger trains upto January 27 as precautionary measure but running of goods train was on. The NC. Hills Indigenous Students’ Forum sponsored 100 hours N. C. Hills Bandh started from 6 PM on Friday disrupted the normal life at Haflong. Due to 4th Saturday all the offices remain closed. No vehicle was seen on the road except of security.
The NCHISF has been demanding immediate bifurcation of N. C. Hills into two Autonomous District with separate Autonomous Council. The Government has also constituted a task force to deal with them. Last 21st January was fixed for talk in-between task force and the IPF and NCHISF but it was deferred by January 28th. Now both the organizations are demanding immediate solution to their demand.
