Computer literacy drive by Army at Bilasipara

To generate Computer awareness among the students of remote village areas, 19 Madras Regiment under Red Horns Division organised a basic computer course of one month in Gaurang Nagar, near Bilasipra town of Dhubri district. In total 23 students had joined in the course and they had been taught MS Word, MS Power Point and MS Excel. In addition, classes regarding Internet Protocols and World Wide Web were also conducted.


On the occasion of closing ceremony held on 14 Jun 2011, certificates of merit were awarded to those meritorious students by Colonel PS Punia, Commanding Officer of 19 Madras Regiment. While interacting with the gathering, he emphasized that the youth is the future of any nation and the importance of Information Technology in modern world is very essential for a bright future.


The course was one of the series of events organised by the Army to broaden to encourage them to utilise their tremendous potential and energy to promote peace and harmony in the state of Assam, the army sources revealed.

On the night of May 22, 19th Madras Regiment of Army arrested two persons as NDFB linkmen from Kamalajhar under Gauripur police station of Dhubri district. Dhubri District Administration had set up closed-circuit television (CCTV) in the District Library on April 24, which is being used as strong room for the EVMs of Dhubri, Gauripur and Golakganj Assembly Constituencies. It is mentionable here that those EVMs were put in that strong room on April 11. The candidates from different political parties, except Congress, have shown their displeasure over the matter. On the night of April 21, the Dhubri police seized more then twelve quintals of contraband ganja from a mini truck (bearing number plate AS-19C/3012) from a parking place of Chagolia Entry Gate of Assam-West Bengal Inter State Border of Dhubri district. The truck was loaded with vegetables and was coming from Bokajan (Assam). According to the police the worth of the seized ganja weighting near about 12,700 kilograms is more then Rupees Sixty Lakh. There is an allegation that corruption running unabatedly in Dhubri Election Office.
