Noted educationist, journalist Thaneswar Hazarika passes away


Thaneswar Hazarika, of the Bokakhat Town and the local correspondent of The Sentinel newspaper died on Saturday at his residence following prolonged illness. Born in Majuli, Hazarika was 64 at the time of his demise.


Noted educationist, Hazarika retired as the principal-in-charge of JDSG college, Bokakhat. He was associated with various newspapers of Assam including The Assam Tribune, Dainik Asom, The Sentinel, The Eastern Clarion, Natun Dainik etc. He was serving as the president of Bokakhat Press Club at the time of his demise.


Highly admired by the people of Bokakhat, Hazarika leaves behind his wife, two daughters and a son, besides a host of relatives.

A minor boy sustained serious injury at an incident of cross fire between KPLT militants and security forces in Karbi Anglong district on Wednesday.The incident took place in the evening at Borbeel area near Howraghat when an army troop was locked in an encounter with KPLT militants.A minor boy sustained serious injury in the two hour long cross firing from both sides. The Karbi militants managed to flee from the spot.Identified as Tenson, the 12 year old boy was shifted to the hospital.
