Thanks to Golaghat dist. administration Aideo Handiqe, the first female cine star of Assam is still alive among us. When any body opens http://golaghat.nic.in the website of Golaghat dist. administration, there are many mild shocks and surprises in store for them. For instance Aideo Handiqe is very much alive according to the website and now leads a lonely life at her home in Panidihing Gaon, near Kamargaon. Moreover the website name Mr. Harendra Nath Bora as the Deputy Commissioner and adviser of the website, but what will surprises the visitors the most that Mr. Bora had long been transferred from here. There is incomplete information about the local educational institution and even the oldest educational institute of Golaghat, the Govt. Bezbaruah Boys Higher Secondary School did not find a mention, so also Golaghat Commerce College, the only commerce education institute in Golaghat town. Also the name of the present DC is missing from the site. Internet which is the most effective mode of communication and information now a days has not been harnessed to proper use by the dist. administration of Golaghat which only points out to the sorry state of affairs prevailing in the administration.

The 3rd day of the 71st session of Assam Sahitya Sabha was marked by a vivid and colourful cultueal procession. The whole of Dergaon town was transformed into a sea of colour during the cultural procession. The procession was flagged off by Mr. Sarat Phukan. Students from various schools and colleges and other groups such as Police Training College, Assam Dhulia Sanmilan etc took part in the mass rally. The procession showcased the importance of assamese calendar months in a very colourful way.
The 71st Conference of the Assam Sahitya Sabha, began today at Bhasar Uja Hemchandra Barua Khetra, Dergaon in the district of Golaghat. The entire place wore a festive look with the residents, irrespective of caste and community, preparing to host the conference.
The Organizing Committee says, various programmes will be organized during the four-day long literary meet. A science exhibition, book fair and a trade fair is also being organised. More than 250 publishers and book sellers have set up their stalls in the book fair.
As many as 2,500 delegates will attend the conference of the premiere literary organisation.

Noted freedom fighter, writer, social worker and Assam’s former Agriculture and Co-operative Minister between 1967 and 1978 Soneswar Bora passed away at Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital in Golaghat at around 5 am today morning. He was 86 and was suffering from old age ailments for long time. Late Bora played an active role in the Quit India Movement in 1942. In a bizzare incident involving CRPF, one CRPF jawan was killed and another was critically injred when an exchange of fire took place between themselves. The incident took place at around 8.00 PM in the Tetelitol CRPF Check Point at Golagat. One Ruganeh Singh from Rajasthan was killed on the spot and Venkatesh Barlu from Andra Pradesh was critically injured in the incident. The other jawan succumbed to injuries later.
