People from Assam, who have made Kuwait their second home, are all set to celebrate Rongali Bihu this year with even more fanfare than ever before, under the aegis of Asom Association Kuwait, which was established and registered with the Indian Embassy, Kuwait, in 2009. This Organization formalized the celebration of Bihu in the State of Kuwait, and became instrumental in showcasing the rich culture & tradition of Assam. In the 3rd AGM held on 12th February 2011, a new Executive Committee was formed with Sri Anup Bora as Hony. President and Sri Bijan Goswami as Hony. General Secretary, to lead the activities of organization through the year 2011-12.
Over the past few years, the Assamese community in Kuwait had the opportunity to enjoy the enthralling performances by the likes of Zubin Garg and Manas Robin, who brought lot of glitz and color to the festivities here in in this part of the middle-east. This year the community is all set to sway to the music and melodies of yet another great singer from Assam – Shmti. Shanta Uzir. She will be accompanied by her Music Composer husband Sh. Bhupen Uzir. The cultural evening set for the 13th May, will be enriched by her Bihu songs along with her other famous hits. The venue for the ‘Shanta Uzir Nite’ will be the famous “Al Murjan” Banquet hall of “Hotel Crowne Plaza”, where performances from the local Assamese community will add variety, color and enthusiasm amongst the community.
Earlier, the onset of Bohag was celebrated by the Assamese community here by organizing a day long festivities of ‘Khel-dhemali’ and ‘ Bhoj’ in the Fintas Park, located in Mahboula, Kuwait. Members along with their children participated in the fun games and contests and the winners were suitably awarded with prizes and gifts.
Among the notable fresh initiatives of the Asom Association Kuwait, was the formal launch of a website www.kuwaitotasom.com to showcase and highlight the activities of the Organization. Members have enthusiastically responded by making this virtual forum a window to all that the organization stands for. Appropriately, the Assamese community has strived to create what the name of the website suggests Kuwait-ot-asom i.e an Assam in Kuwait.

Karimganj is going to repoll in 75 polling booths in Karimganj on Tuesday. The repolling has been ordered following the allegations of large scale rigging and booth capturing on 9th of January. The state government has beefed up security arrangement to ensure peace and normalcy during the repelling in these booths. Two leading officers on Monday deposed before the Manisana Singh Commission which is probing the Beltola clash that rocked the state on November 24. Altogether four proscribed militant outfit in the operating in the northeastern states have given a Republic Day boycott call. These outfits are United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), Kamatapur Liberation Organisation (KLO), Tripura People's Democratic Front (TPDF) and Manipur Peoples Liberation Front (MPLF).In a joint statement, the four organisations reiterated their boycott call as well as their opposition to the Centre.

The Barpeta police have recovered two powerful bombs from a bus operating under the Assam State Transport Corporation in the district on Saturday.. According to information, the two bombs have been found during a routine check by the police at the ASTC bus stand on Barpeta Road. The two bombs were kept inside two polythene bags were kept in the luggage carriage of the bus. The bus was bound for Guwahati. The bomb left abandoned was later defused by the bomb disposal squad.
