Arrested ULFA cadres reveal plan to strike on R-Day
The ULFA was planning a huge strike in the city in the run up to the Republic Day celebrations. The insurgent outfit rushed four battalions to strike in the city and the entire operation was to be led by 28th No battalion top cadres Amarnath Chetri alias Abhijit Dutta and Ramesh Kalita alias Pradip Kurmi.

These have been revealed by both the two cadres arrested by the Golaghat police on Saturday. They have been rushed to the city on Monday and now they are being kept in police custody.

After preparation, the seargent majors of the 28th battalion were all set to strike in the city. Amarnath who is under police custody at the Panbazar police station hails from Moubandha gaon of Jorhat district and he joined ULLFA in 1992. He was earlier arrested in 1995 and was also involved collecting cash in the city at the instance of the 28th battalion leader Samrat Buragohain. On the other hand, Ramesh who is being kept in Bharalumukh police station is a resident of Hariahani. He also joined the outfit in 1992.
