Mithila Ranjan Roychoudhury (Mantu) passed away at his residence at Isswapur Hati, Barpeta on April 14 at about 8 o' clock. The people of Barpeta mourned at the sudden death of Roychoudhury who was the most amiable and polite person of the locality. He was the Fishery Officer (I/C) of Dhubri district. After the election duty was over, he came back to his hometown to celebrate bihu with his family. He left his wife and two daughters anlong with a host of kith and kin.
The 64th Independence Day was observed at Barpeta also along with the rest of the country on Sunday. Unfurling the National flag at the Govt HS school premises the deputy commissioner of Barpeta Phanidhar Lakita remembered the sacrifices of the great Indian freedom fighters. Addressing to the gathering after taking the welcome of March-past he added that Barpeta district have been proceeded in various sides along with the implementation of the schemes.
