Cultural Function of Assam by Assam Association of Mumbai

The Assam Association, Mumbai organizes a cultural
function of traditional Assamese music and dance to be
performed by reputed artists specially invited from Assam
on Sunday 23rd September 2007 at Assam Bhawan,
Vashi, from 4 pm to 7 pm. Those cultural items were
created by Sri Sri Sankardeva, the greatest cultural and
social reformer of NE India.
On this occasion, the association takes the pleasure to
invite you and your associates/journalists to make this
event a success. We shall be grateful, if you kindly grant

It was very nice to get the news about the celebration of greatest saint of Asom Srimanta Sankardev, who was the founder of basic culture and peace in Assam, which is still followed to maintain our strong history.

499.79 acres of Assam land slips to B'desh

Assam Revenue Minister Bhumidhar Barman got candid with the media on saturday when he disclosed that Bangladesh has illegally occupied about 499.79 acres of land in the state. According to him, the occupied lands were in Dhubri and Karimganj districts. GPC Media Fellows name declared

The name of the media fellows, selected for the fellowship programme to study the issues of climate change and disaster risk reduction has been declared. Sponsored by ActionAid (Northeast) and conducted by Guwahati Press Club the fellowships have been awarded to Manoranjan Bori (Dainik Janambhumi), Sudip Sharma (Sangbad Lahari) and Kanta Kaveri Sonowal (The Sentinel). The fellows will receive a grant of Rs 10,000/- for the month long feloooship program, under which they will study and report about the impact of climate change in Northeast India and also probable ways for disaster risk reduction in the region.

Tai Ahom organizations oppose protest march

In a meeting convened at Gormur high School presided over by Cheng Lung Bimal, all major Tai Ahom organizations of Assam resolved to maintain age-old peaceful relationship between the people of Assam and Nagaland and expressed grave concern at the recent developments at Assam-Nagaland border at Bihubor. They condemned the actions of some self-interested and reactionary forces trying to disrupt this friendly bond. Naga rebel killed in Haflong encounter

A hardecore NSCN cadre died and three others have been arrested during a joint operation by police and army in Haflong on Friday. According to information, acting a tip off that a small group of militants are hiding in Lungsingram area, police and army launched a combing operation in the area where the encounter took place in the hills district town. The salined Naga rebel cadre was identified as Pauramkualungbe Riame but local residents call it a fake encounter and that he was a vilager only . 10 dead in 2 road mishaps in Assam

Ten persons were killed in two separate tragic road mishap in Assam during the last 24 hours .The first one incident took place in Sonitpur district where 6 persons died and two others seriously injured. The incident took place a tailer fell into a deep george after the break of a bridge. The it took place at Belisiri Bridge on the National Highway 52 at around on later Thursday midnight.
