International Women’s Day was observed at Gram Vikash Parishad’s Head Office, Rangaloo jointly by Jan Sikshan Sansthan, Nagaon, Gram Vikash Parishad and Social Welfare Department of Nagaon on 8th March 2011. To mark this auspicious occasion a day long programme was held. Officers from different departments of the district and well known persons were present in the open session presided over by Md. Siraj Uddin Ahmed General Secretary of Gram Vikas Parishad. Valuable speeches were delivered by the eminent guest speakers including Mrs Jarjina Begum (Retired Subject Teacher), Moni Deepa Saikia (District Social Welfare Officer), Rosie Kalita (Additional S.P. Nagaon), Dr. Roslin Zahan (Professor Nagaon Girls College), Based Ali (Asstt. Teacher Rangoloo High School), Abdul Munnaf (President, Gram Vikas Parishad), Rumi Begum (Senior Supervisor Kathiatali ICDS Project), emphasizing over the main objective of observing Women’s Day, women empowerment and awareness.
On this occasion tree plantation, devotional song, drawing competition and a one act play performed by JSS & GVP staff written and directed by Kajol Choudhury were one of the important parts of the day long programme including open session. Few eminent social workers felicitated on this occasion were Nagaon Zila Mahila Congress Committee president Mrs. Eliza Ahmed, District Social Welfare Officer Ms. Moni Deepa Saikia and senior advocate and former lecturer of Nagaon Law College Mrs. Deepa Saikia.

Two powerful grenade explosions marred Independance day celebrations in Kokrajhar on Thursday. The fist blast took place at JV Road at 10.30 in the morning where one person sustained. Identified as Bipul Brahma, he was rushed to the hospital. Another bomb exploded in front of BPF head office.
Despite elaborate security arrangement two more grenade explosions rocked Chirang again. The first explosion took place at Baghergaon in Bijni. Then the second grenade went off in front of ABMSU office premises in the morning.
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday said that only peace can the state get an era of development. Unfurling the tricolour at the Khanapara Veterinary playground, Gogoi said that despite insurgency the state has made progress on all fronts. Dilip Nunisa, former Chairman of the DHD (NUNISA), once a dreaded Militant organisation of Dima Hasao was caught in Guwahati on August 14, along with others in case of smuggling a rare reptile called the "TOKEY GECKO" lizard.The former militant turned politician Nunisa was found carrying the TOKEY GECKO reptile in his car while on his way to Haflong, accompanied by his body guards. He was believed to be involved making deals for smuggling the reptile. Amid a mammoth security arrangement yet another grenade explosion rocks Chirang a few hours ahead of the Independence Day. The blast took place at ratabari in the evening. There is no report of any casualty.
NDFB’ anti-talk faction trigger two grenade blasts in Chirang district a day before the Independence Day on Wednesday. The militants triggered two grenade blasts and two improvised explosive devices were recovered. No injury or casualty was reported. The grenade blasts took place in Chirang district around 8.40 am. Security arrangements had been reviewed and additional forces have been deployed at vital installations like oil fields, refineries, airports and along the railway tracks and stations.

The UPA government will introduce a Bill to create an Upper House in Assam Legislative Assembly during the Winter Session of Parliament.The Assam government said the Union Minister for Law and Justice Kapil Sibal has told Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi about the decision to establish a Legislative Council (Upper House) in Assam Legislative Assembly.Assam Assembly has passed two resolutions for creation of an Upper House in 2005 and 2010.
