With the ever rising demand of the students, Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), Guwahati, has several new facilities to cater the needs. The institute which was established in the year 1998 is now ready to provide their service with toll-free number and a community radio centre to the students.
“The demand of the students has been huge and we always try to provide maximum facility to the students. As it is a distant learning education we try our best so that the students do not have to miss the things by providing them sufficient support services,” said the IDOL director Kandarpa Das.
IDOL provides support system through printed study materials, through SMS service, telephone counseling and through e-learning portal.
“Looking the students’ increasing demand we have arranged several new support system. We will start a toll free number for the students. It will be beneficiary for the students as they may not have enough money to make a call to the existing telephone number to ask their queries. I think it will be a great help for the students,” he said adding at present they receive 10 to 15 calls daily and the faculty members guide them according to their needs through the calls.
“Our e-learning portal too has been helpful. Till now around 2000 students take the advantage of this facility to gather necessary information and study related items,” Das added.
Apart from that IDOL is ready to launch their community radio centre during the first week of February this year.
“Everything is ready and we are waiting for the launching of the community radio in the next week. I think it will be a revolutionary step on the education scenario of the region towards a new height,” the director said.
He further said, “We want the students to feel confident with our services and they should get quality education.”
From its inception the institute has seen around 40, 000 students enrolling themselves in various courses in the institute. “Besides all the new facilities we are also planning to add some new courses from our next session. After the completion of our new building we can have a bigger library which can happen in the later part of the year,” Das said adding that at present the institute has a library with 5000 books, journals, magazines and CDs.
