100 hours NCHills Bandh disrupts normal at Haflong
The NC. Hills Indigenous Students’ Forum sponsored 100 hours N. C. Hills Bandh started from 6 PM on Friday disrupted the normal life at Haflong. Due to 4th Saturday all the offices remain closed. No vehicle was seen on the road except of security.
The NCHISF has been demanding immediate bifurcation of N. C. Hills into two Autonomous District with separate Autonomous Council. The Government has also constituted a task force to deal with them. Last 21st January was fixed for talk in-between task force and the IPF and NCHISF but it was deferred by January 28th. Now both the organizations are demanding immediate solution to their demand.

Strong resentment was expressed by the Dima Halam Daogah (Jewel) over the army atrocities on its cadres those are staying at their respective designated camps at Maibang, Jatinga, Kapurcherra and Haflong communicating office on July 10. The 100 hours bandh from tomorrow 4 am by the North Cachar Hills Indigenous Students Forum (NCHISF) has been withdrawn following assurance from the government for second round of talks on July 21. The forum demanded bifurcation of NC Hills into two Autonomous districts under 3 (C) of Articles 244 (2) & 275 (1) of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution.

Today, being the Sunday, the movement of people is very less than other days of the week. The busy roads wear deserted look in and around the Haflong Town. Picketers are seen moving around the town. The ASTC services are suspended. The deployment of security is not encouraging though there has been threat of violence.
