A large number of historical monuments are going to be extinct due to lack of proper maintenance by the Govt. and Archaeological Departments.
The historical Gorokhiya Dol situated in the bank of the Dikhow River at Nomati village of Nazira Sub-Division, Sivasagar District carries the sign of the glorious Ahom Kings.
The compound of this Dol is yet unfenced and it is surrounded by wild jungles. Now it become a safe shelter for the antisocial elements.
A few days earlier, some suspected Bangladeshis have stolen a golden idol from this Gorokhiya Dol of about 2 kg weight.
In our investigation it has come to the light that Mr. Lal Baj whose phone No. is 9854562276 and his brother-in-law Jamai, whose phone no. is 9854954647, both were living as tenants in the Nomati village of Nazira, have stolen the idol by digging inside the Gorokhiya Dol about 9 to 11 pm on last 13th August 2007 and fled to Tezpur.
Officials of the State Archaeological Dept. has visited the said place on last 25th August 2007, an investigation is going on in this matter.
Foundation day of the Sivasagar District was observed on July 1. The Nazira civil administration organized several programmes including tree plantation, town cleaning, cultural procession, drawing competition etc. Mousumi Baruah SDO(C) innugurated the opening programme at Nazira Gandhi. District RTI cell of BJP observed Sivasagar Divas at Gargaon and took a plantation programme in the historic Kareng Ghar campus.
Kalaguru Brishnu Prashad Rabha Memorial Day with a day-long programme was organised at Nazira Community Centre on Friday. On this occasion a seminer on Bishnu Rabha was held. People of Galekey's Bortania village in Nazira Sub division in Upper Assam are still affraid of the gas leakage incident at ONGC's Rig No-E 2005 GK GL Well. This incident happened at 5 PM on June 12 and with a huge sound and polluting the air up to 2 kilometers. Although the crisis management team of ONGC immediately controlled the situation, local people demand for proper compensation. A public meeting were held in this are on Friday in this regard where SDPO of Nazira Ashif Ahmed, AK Kumar GGM of Drilling section of the ONGC, Kashyap Joshipura, Manager Corporate Communication of ONGC etc. were present alongwith other dignatories.

A sigh of relief for the Jorhat poll candidates.
