Liberal Youth Forum had organized one day workshop on Right to Information Act and Campus Governance to sensitize students on governance issues on 8th December at Gauri Sadan, Guwahati. The programme was organized as apart of Campus Pulse Programme which is being supported by The Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung für die Freiheit (FNF) which is a non-profit organization that promotes liberal democracy, respect for human rights, rule of law and economic freedom. The programme was organized by J B Law College Chapter of LYF is a movement of individuals, informal groups and formal associations collaborating to create access and choice in social, cultural, economic, political and environmental spheres for a freer India.
Ranjan K Baruah, youth activist and one of the founder members of LYF spoke on the genesis of LYF and how the organization was formed democratically by youths from different parts of India two years back. He also spoke campus governance and its importance. “Students are one of the important stakeholders of any campus but they have less say in the governance system of campuses, so it is important that they become aware of governance system and take part in the system”, he said while presenting on youth and democratic governance with focus on campus governance. He appealed the participants to be eternally vigilant and work for building a vibrant civil society.
Saito Basumatary, legal activist and Secretary of Lawyers for Rights spoke on Right to Information Act and how students can use it in their perspectives. All together 50 Students from different colleges took part in the workshop. Rituttom Bora, Campus Coordinator of J B Law College welcomed the participants and spoke about the objectives of the workshop at the beginning. LYF was launched in 2008 and it believes in the power of human enterprise to overcome the shackles of poverty and to find full expression in a society founded on the principles of freedom and tolerance. LYF want to see an India in which all citizens are equal before the law and have the opportunity to pursue their own happiness.
Guwahati: Just few days after the water borne disease Diarrhea hit the people of Padum Pukhuri area of Uzanbazar area in Guwahati, once again outbreaks have been reported from the Krishnapur area near Beltola Guwahati on Friday. Two children Krishna Choudhury (7) and Rabi Das (10) have been found infected by the diarrhea disease till the report last came in. It may be mentioned that on 22nd of this month, two children died because of Diarrhea besides affecting 14 others who were later hospitalised at GMCH hospital for further treatment. Worried residents of Guwahati city were taking all sorts of precautionary measures.

Starting from Kualalampur, Malaysia via Cape town it will return to Kualalampur by 30 th August 2007. The car rally termed as "Visit Malaysia 2007" had a large contingent of participants who participated in the car rally. A mob of about 5000 people at Raid Kyrdem village, Meghalaya on Monday afternoon set on fire five houses on suspicious of practicing witched craft at Mawbesien Village in Ri Bhoi District under Uniam Police Station. The mob at Raid Kyrdem village comprising residents from of eleven villages gathered at Mawbesein village on 20-08-07 afternoon and set on fire the five houses belong to one Dhon Nongkynrieh. Apart from this, they have also burnt two vehicles and the rice mill owned by the family. Dhon Nongkynrieh's family comprises of sixteen people left the village for safety. The Deodhani festival at Kamakhya temple, Guwahati has started on 19-08-07 where evotees painted their bodies with red colour and carry a goat and pigeon for sacrifice. It is believed that taking part in this festival gets superficial power from goddess Kamakhya. Kamakhya temple is considered the principle seat of the Hindu cult of Shaktism (Tantra) There are actually two types of Deodhani nritya. One is a semi-classical dance and the other one is a trance form (not a dance). The Deodhani Dance prevalent in Mangaldoi and southwest Kamrup area, which is linked to the Sukanani Oja-Pali. It is nice to see that the present promoters of this dance have refined it to a readily acceptable art.
State bank of India inaugurates its 183rd ATM of the North East Circle at Dispur under Dispur Branch. This is also the 35th ATM in Guwahati, which is dedicated to the service of ATM customers.The present average hit rate in ATM’s in the entire North East is over three hundred per day and in major cities long queues are observed which encourages SBI to open more ATM centers. After getting positive response, SBI aims to install another three hundred ATM’s including railway stations within March 2008.
