Workshop on Campus Governance


Liberal Youth Forum had organized one day workshop on Right to Information Act and Campus Governance to sensitize students on governance issues on 8th December at Gauri Sadan, Guwahati. The programme was organized as apart of Campus Pulse Programme which is being supported by The Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung für die Freiheit (FNF) which is a non-profit organization that promotes liberal democracy, respect for human rights, rule of law and economic freedom. The programme was organized by J B Law College Chapter of LYF is a movement of individuals, informal groups and formal associations collaborating to create access and choice in social, cultural, economic, political and environmental spheres for a freer India.


Ranjan K Baruah, youth activist and one of the founder members of LYF spoke on the genesis of LYF and how the organization was formed democratically by youths from different parts of India two years back. He also spoke campus governance and its importance. “Students are one of the important stakeholders of any campus but they have less say in the governance system of campuses, so it is important that they become aware of governance system and take part in the system”, he said while presenting on youth and democratic governance with focus on campus governance. He appealed the participants to be eternally vigilant and work for building a vibrant civil society.


Saito Basumatary, legal activist and Secretary of Lawyers for Rights spoke on Right to Information Act and how students can use it in their perspectives. All together 50 Students from different colleges took part in the workshop. Rituttom Bora, Campus Coordinator of J B Law College welcomed the participants and spoke about the objectives of the workshop at the beginning. LYF was launched in 2008 and it believes in the power of human enterprise to overcome the shackles of poverty and to find full expression in a society founded on the principles of freedom and tolerance. LYF want to see an India in which all citizens are equal before the law and have the opportunity to pursue their own happiness.

Two suspected Muslim United Liberation Tigers of Assam (MULTA) has been arrested by the 43 Assam Rifles in a combing operation from the Koliabhumura area in Tezpur on 29-07-08 evening. In tragic incident, three wild elephants have been found dead inside the Sengelijan Elephant Reserve Forest under Gohpur Sub-division near Sirajukli Karbi Village on 27th July morning. An electricity post was damaged due to the excavation work going on for construction of the widening process of the proposed four lane road in front of the Khetri Police Station, near Guwahati today. The resulted short-circuit in the electrical post damaged many electronics goods of that area used in the households. Following this, hundreds of angry people gheraowd the Khetri Police Station.They damaged the excavator used in the construction site. In a crucial turn around, Top United Liberation Front of Assam leader Prabal Neog alias Benudhar Bora has been released from the Dibrugarh Central Jail this afternoon. Assam's first photo-journalist and cine director Amulya Manna passed away at Nagaon on 19-01-08 at the age of 80. He left behind his wife, one daughter and three sons.Besides being involved in the production of several cinemas in Assam, he directed 'Marishika', 'Pathar Aru Jiban' and documentaries, 'Sadiya Radha' and 'Flowers of Assam'.
