National shooting championship in Guwahati

The 20th edition of All India G V Mavalankar Shooting Championship, which will be held from November 18 to 27 at the Sports Shooting Range, 4th APBN Complex, Kahilipara in the city, is being organized by Assam Rifle and Shooting Association (ARSA).


More than 2,300 shooters from the various places of the country, that includes 96 from Assam, will take part in the event.


The Small Bore and Rifle championship will be categorized in Men and Women, Sub-Junior, Junior, Open and Services. “We have decided to keep a separate category for the Services as to give the civil shooters a chance to showcase their talents as well. Services people always engage with these activities, so always they have a upper hand in shooting championships,” said ARSA general secretary Bhaba Kalita.


He further said, “The Open category will be for the veterans.”


The event will see following competitions, 10 metre air pistol and 10 metre air rifle, 25 metre centre fire pistol, 25 metre stand pistol and 50 metre free pistol, which will be only for men. While 25 metre sports pistol will be for women shooters. Then there will be 50 metre rifle prone, 50 metre rifle 3-position, 50 metre open sight rifle prone and 50 metre open sight rifle 3-position will be open for all.


Throughout the tournament more than one lakh twenty thousand bullets will be fired by the shooters as infirmed by Bhaba Kalita. He added, “40 technical officers who have recently officiated in the Commonwealth Games will be here for the championship.”


“This pre-nation championship is the platform for the upcoming shooters of the country to showcase their talents and to move ahead. This performance will help the shooters to get selected for the major national events,” said Kalita.


The officials of ARSA, which was instituted in 2000, also thanked Manipur Manipur Rifles Association and Assam Police for their help.
