8 killed in NDFB strike

At least 8 people have been killed when NDFB militants struck in Sonitpur district on Monday. The gory incident took place when a group of suspected cadres of the Bodo rebel outfit halted a passenger bus on its way to Sijubari bordering Arunachal Pradesh and forcibly brought 10 people from inside the bus and strated indiscriminate firing on them. Eight persons died on the spot. The incident took place a week after the outfit threatend a bloodbath.


A few hours before the carnage, a hardcore NDFB militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in the district. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of the police and army launched a joint operation in Batasipura under Dhekiajuli police station area of the district and one militant got killed following an encounter. The security forces recovered a 9 mm pistol and three rounds of live ammunition from the slain man suspected to be hardcore militant Mahesh Basumatary allegedly involved in several extortion and kidnapping cases.
