D.R. College celebrates its Diamond Jubilee

Debraj Roy College, the premier higher educational institute of Golaghat District, has begun its diamond jubilee celebration with a three day long program. The celebration has been flagged off by a very vibrant and colorful cultural procession. A book fair and painting has also been orgainsed on this occasion. The alumni meet. which will be held on 2nd November, will be presided over by noted novelist of Assam Dr. Nagen Saikia. As a part of the diamond jubilee celebration, the Indian Army will showcase daring sky-diving stunts from two Indian Air Force helicopters on 3rd November. The sky divers will carry the national flag along with the flags of D.R. College and N.C.C. The closing ceremony will be marked by dignitaries from various field including Sahitya Academy Award winner Rita Choudhury, Education Minister Mr. Gautam Bora and PWD Minister Ajanta Neog.

In yet another bizarre incident that runs into a hail of surprise, a magistrate was arrested when he was trying to bribe KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi on Tuesday. Police arrested Golaghat district additional deputy commissioner Anamuddin Ahmed in Jorhat when he approach Gogoi with Rs 5 lakh in cash as bribe at around 8-30 in the evening. Gogoi, who refused to accept the amount as bribe informed the police who later rushed to the spot and arrested the magistrate.
