ULFA released kidnapped junior engineer

Guwahati: ULFA on Wednesday night released an engineer kidnapped 12 days ago from Nalbari district. Junior engineer Bhagaban Das working in west Nalbari development block was abducted on 25th of August on gun point. He was released near Pathshala in neighbouring Barpeta district. Three ULFA militants came on riding motorbikes brought Das and left him near Satsang Vihar from where he rang up his brother who took him home. He was later shifted to a Guwahati Neurological Research Center for treatment as he was severely injured and weak.

Mohilary takes stock of flood in Chirang

The Chief of BTC Hagrama Mohilary today visited Chirang district to assess the damages caused by the recent flood in the district. 

In this regard, he held meeting with the district administration and interacted with the district heads of the departments in the conference hall of the DC's office here. After taking stock of the damages from all departments, he asked the officials to submit details assessment reports touching everything lost due to flood for restoration and mitigation of demages for sanctioning fund from the Central Govt. He said that the demages was not only caused by the Rivers-Aei, Champa and Manash but also with its tributaries like Kanamakra, Taklai, Nangalbanga etc. therefore, he asked the concerned departments to conduct proper survey at different areas and submit the reports of the demages within a month so as to move with the Govt. 

The Chirang DC  Mazumdar had informed that  the total fund required for restoration of damages in the district was more than 30 crores. 

Mohilary was accompanied by MP Biswajit Daimary, MLA Chandan Brahma, BTC EMs Syam Sundi, Jagdish Sarkar, BTC Principal Secretary Anupam Kr. Ray, Secretary Carol Narzary.

Lower Subansiri Hydro-Electric project

The construction of Lower Subansiri Lower Hhydro-Electric Project is going on at Gerukamukg, Dhemaji district bordering Arunachal Pradesh. It is the biggest hydroelectric project undertaken in India so far and is a run of river scheme on river Subansiri. The Project is located near North Lakhimpur on the border of Assam and Aruncachal Pradesh. The nearest railhead is Nagaon and nearest airport is Lilabari. The estimated annual energy generation from the Project is 7421 MU in a 90% dependable year.

  • Pressure Shaft-8 No, Horse shoe/circular shaped varying dia. of 9.5m-7.0m and length 192m to 215m.
  • Surface power house to accommodate 8 units of Francis turbines of 250 MW capacity each.
  • Tail race channel, 206 m x 35 m (W x L)

  • Diversion Tunnel heading excavation completed, 99.35% Benching excavation, 72.46% Overt lining and 84.97% Overt lining completed.
  • 37.15% adit to Surge Chamber excavation and 57.40% Surge Chamber excavation completed.
  • 97.21% PH excavation and 2.83% PH concreting has been completed.
  • HRT excavation, E&M and HM Works are in progress.

Gogoi blasts Advani for land deal criticism

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday strongly criticised L K Advani a day after the senior BJP leader slammed Congress government for corruption and mis-governance.

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Friday, Gogoi said it is only BJP which has institutionalized corruption. Gogoi said time and again BJP has been facing corruption charges in the country.

Gogoi also criticised Advani for opposing the land deal with Bangladesh saying that the senior BJP leader does not know how the deal would benefit the north eastern region.

He charged the erstwhile NDA government with not doing enough to Assam and its neighbouring north eastern states.
