EMFA formed, annual awards launched

A forum comprising all the electronic media persons of Guwahati was formed at the Guwahati Press Club on Sunday (10.10.10). Formed with an aim to protect the rights of media persons and encourage the spirit of Journalism, the forum has been christened ‘Electronic Media Forum Asom’. A working committee was formed in the meeting with three members each from every news channel based in Guwahati and three from national electronic media with Bimal Ghosh (RD), Pranjit Saikia and Nava Thakuria as co-ordinators. A resolution has been taken in the meeting to launch an annual award recognising outstanding stories. Entries for the first EMFA Award have to be stories that have been telecast or will be aired within January1 - December 31, 2010. Three categories of awards have been decided upon which include:


1) Best Story of the Year 2) Best Story on Environment Issues 3) Best Story on Development Issues.


It has been decided that both the reporter as well as the cameraperson of the award winning story will be felicitated in a function to be held in the 1st week of the New Year. The forum will also hold regular workshops, interactive sessions and training programmes for the benefit of the media persons of the region.
