I-Day celebrated in Udalguri district with gaiety


The 64th I-Day of India was celebrated in various places of Udalguri district in Assam with gaiety.At Udalguri SS Meenakshi Sundaram,IAS,Deputy Commissioner of the district hoisted the national flag at DCs parade groung and took the salute of Army,police NCC and schools' march paste contingents.On the occasion he offered tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.Distinguished guests like Col.Sunil Upadhaya, AP Tiwari, IPS, Superintendent of police Udalguri attended the flag hoisting ceremony.A science model competition cum exhibition was also arranged at DCs parade ground where students from various places of the district namely-Udalguri,Tangla,Kalaigaon and Khoirabari etc displayed spectacular science models.Science model of Anupam Saharia and Manoj Sarma of JNV Kalaigaon won the first prize,while Nirankush Kashyap and Sajidur Rahman of Sacred Heart school,Udalguri;Upamanyoo Das of Kalaigaon won second and third places respectively.In the science quiz Roshan Kumar Bhattarai and Upamanyoo Das's (both from Kalaigaon) team won first prize.


At Kalaigaon, Dina Moni Das,Circle Officer,Kalaigaon Revenue Circle hoisted the tricolor at Gandhi Bakori,before offering tribute to thousands of known and unknown people who had sacrificed their lives for the nation. Cultural events were also arranged on the occasion. At JNV (Jawahar Novodaya Vidyalaya), Kalaigaon,nonagenarian freedom fighter Pani Ram Das (95 years) hoisting the tricolor appealed people,particularly the students to study and follow Gandhi. Madhab Sarma,Principal JNV,Kalaigaon distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions. It needs mention that three distinguished persons of Kalaigaon namely-Mahendra Saikia,Karun Deka and child scientist Juriti Saharia had been awarded district excellence awards at the central I-Day programme at Udalguri.


At Tangla, DN Hazarika,Circle Officer,Harisinga Revenue Circle hoisted the national flag in presence of more than five thousand people. A record number of 21 teams,with more than 650 participants took part in march paste event. Santius Kunjur,EM,BTC; Bonjar Daimari,Deputy Speaker BTC also attended the independence day programme at Tangla where six distinguished persons headed by Ananta Bagh,were felicitated on the occasion for their service to the society.A tchuok ball match was played in the afternoon followed by cultural and drama activities in the evening.


At Sub-divisional HQ Bhergaon,SDO(civil) Debajyoti Dutta,ADC hoisted the tricolor in presence of thousands of people. Various sports and cultural events were organized on the occasion including a few dare devil activities like putting nails into own body by a local youth.

A minor girl dead and dozen others fell ill after they consumed prasad served at a religious function in Udalguri district on Friday. The tragic incident took place in Kalaigaon area where a ten year old girl died early in the morning. At least 71 others have complained of stomach ace and vomitting hours after they consumed prasad. The deceased was identified as Dipsikha Nath who died at the Mangaldai Civil Hospital. Talking to media, ADC DN Hazariaka said that the incident took place hours after they consumed prasad at the house of Harakanta Nath on Wednesday.
