Second convocation of NERIST on August 4

The North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology attained 25 years of its existence witnessing different stages of development. The unconventional modular pattern of technical education of NERIST has proved itself worthy and highly successful in that pattern. The Institute has attained the Deemed University Status in the year 2005. The Institute has celebrated its Silver Jubilee Year in the year 2009 on March 4. The First Convocation of NERIST was addressed by Her Excellency the President of India Smti Prativa Devisingh Patil, on April 1, 2009.


NERIST is all set for its second convocation scheduled for August 4. Former President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam has kindly consented to deliver the Convocation address and award Gold Medals and Degrees to the successful students in the fields of sciences, technology and management. His Excellency the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Gen. J. J. Singh, who is also the President of the NERIST Society, Prof. Gautam Baruah, Director of IIT-Guwahati and who is also the Chairman of NERIST Board of Management, and a host of other dignitaries are slated to grace the occasion.


NERIST shall award I5 M. Tech, 10 M. Sc. (FO), 12 MBA, 171 B. Tech. and 11 B. Sc. (FO) degrees, including 10 Gold medals for the year 2009, and for the year 2010, 11 M. Tech., 11 M. Sc. (FO), 34 MBA, 125 B. Tech. and 15 B. Sc. (FO) degrees, along with 10 Gold medals, in the Convocation on 4th August, 2010. This year NERIST will also be awarding its first Ph. D. degree to a Computer Sc. and Engineering scholar.


Besides the above, Diploma Module and Certificate Module pass out students of both 2009 and 2010 batch are going to get their diplomas and certificates.


As known to everybody, the young generations of students of schools, colleges and universities of our country are highly encouraged by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam to build the future India which can challenge the world in all fields of sciences, technologies and management sciences, NERIST is organizing an Interaction Session of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam with school children from different schools of the capital complex of Itanagar, on 3rd August, 2010 at Darbar Hall in the Rajbhawan of Arunachal Pradesh.


The Convocation function and Convocation Address by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam on 4th August, from 09.45 hours onwards, as well as the Interaction session of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam with school students on 3rd August, 2010, from 17.00 hours onwards will be live telecast by NERIST through the satellite channel of NE TV.

I really feel proud to be from the first batch of NERIST....I definitely regret to having missed our convocation....but definitely cherish such news where in President of India has been giving away the degrees to the passing out Neristians. I have been lucky to have worked with our former President very closely

Thats a wonderful achievement! I feel proud to have been a part of this legacy. As the first batch of the institute we were pioneers and braved the initial hiccups to see this day!! Would have loved to take part in the convocation if I had some prior information! Congratulations anyways!

It fills me with great pride to have been a part of the legacy that has culminated to this day. I am not only proud to be a NERISTian but wear it on my sleve everywhere I go. My heartiest congratulations to the young men and women who are passing out this year and wishing them all the success in their future endevours. Keep the flag flying high everyone.

Indefinite curfew imposed in Chirang

Indefinite curfew has been imposed in Chirang district following the fresh outbreak of group clash where six more people were killed on Saturday. Additional security forces were rushed to the spot and the area sealed. More and more forces have been rushed to the district to efficiently deal with the situation.

Fresh violence: 6 killed in Chirang

Suggesting a rerun of violence in BTAD areas, six people were stabbed to death in Chirang district on Saturday.The incident took place at around 5-30 in the evening at Chaoudharipara at Bijni in the district. Security forces have reached the area and massive operations are going on to nab the culprits.With this, the total number of people killed in the violence has gone up to at least 85.

Ashoka promises safety in B’lore

Karnataka deputy chief minister R Ashoka said that his state is safe and secured for north east people. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Saturday, Ashoka, who also holds the home portfolio said that those willing to return to Bangalore would be able to leave by train free of cost. Ashoka calls on Gogoi on good will visit

Karnataka deputy chief minister R Ashokaon Saturday met Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and briefed him about the steps taken by his government.Ashoka, who is leading a good will team to north east Karnataka government had contacted firms whose employees fled and promised to take them back in their previous jobs. He said 22 arrests have been made by Karnataka police so far and 17 cases registered. Of these, five were arrested for their alleged involvement in circulation of provocative SMS and video.

NE militants shifting to Myanmar: AR

Assam Rifles on Saturday said that North east militants have shifted their bases to Myanmar in the face of crackdown by the Bangladesh security forces. Talking to reporters in Agartala on Saturday, Assam Rifles Inspector General Satish Dua said security forces have been asked by the Centre to maintain a strict vigil about the movement of the militants in the region.

Huge money founded as BDO raided

Chief Minister’s anti corruption and vigilance cell unearthed a huge amount of money and some ornaments during a raid it conducted at a house in Guwahati on Saturday. The raid was conducted at the residence of a block development office who works at Mayong in Morigaon district. Led by superintendent of police Raunok Ali Hazarika, the 12 member team reached the BDO’s residence in Hatigaon area and found rupees and dollars of Rs 27 lakh put inside even flower bash and pillows. Investigation is going on.

Dispur: Himanta withdraws resignation

Ending all speculations Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma resumed duty in Dispur on Saturday. Dr Sarma who withdrew his resignation on Friday signed a few NRHM files at his office on Saturday. But he refused to speak to the media. On August 15, Dr Sarma put in his papers without any formal comment. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi also did not make any formal comment on Dr Sarma’s resignation. On Friday evening he called on Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at Koinadhara where he wanted to take his resignation letter back.

Himanta meets CM, to withdraw papers

Finally Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday called on Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in a move to withdraw the resignation he tendered last week. After landing at the Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Dr Sarma straightly left for Koinadhara and called on the Chief Minister. According to sources, he let Gogoi know that he wanted to withdraw his resignation. But Dr Sarma is tightlipped on the entire political development. He on August 15 tendered his resignation. But he did not make it public.

Powerful grenade explosion in Kakopathar

Kakopathar police station in Dibrugarh district of Assam had a narrow escape when suspected ULFA militants lobbed a powerful grenade on Friday. The grenade attack took place at around 9 at night which exploded with a huge sound just a few meters away from police station. There is no report of any casualty as the grenade missed the target. Top ranked police officials arrived in the spot and a vigorous operation is going on to nab the culprits. But no outfit has so far owned up the responsibility.
