Second convocation of NERIST on August 4


The North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology attained 25 years of its existence witnessing different stages of development. The unconventional modular pattern of technical education of NERIST has proved itself worthy and highly successful in that pattern. The Institute has attained the Deemed University Status in the year 2005. The Institute has celebrated its Silver Jubilee Year in the year 2009 on March 4. The First Convocation of NERIST was addressed by Her Excellency the President of India Smti Prativa Devisingh Patil, on April 1, 2009.


NERIST is all set for its second convocation scheduled for August 4. Former President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam has kindly consented to deliver the Convocation address and award Gold Medals and Degrees to the successful students in the fields of sciences, technology and management. His Excellency the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Gen. J. J. Singh, who is also the President of the NERIST Society, Prof. Gautam Baruah, Director of IIT-Guwahati and who is also the Chairman of NERIST Board of Management, and a host of other dignitaries are slated to grace the occasion.


NERIST shall award I5 M. Tech, 10 M. Sc. (FO), 12 MBA, 171 B. Tech. and 11 B. Sc. (FO) degrees, including 10 Gold medals for the year 2009, and for the year 2010, 11 M. Tech., 11 M. Sc. (FO), 34 MBA, 125 B. Tech. and 15 B. Sc. (FO) degrees, along with 10 Gold medals, in the Convocation on 4th August, 2010. This year NERIST will also be awarding its first Ph. D. degree to a Computer Sc. and Engineering scholar.


Besides the above, Diploma Module and Certificate Module pass out students of both 2009 and 2010 batch are going to get their diplomas and certificates.


As known to everybody, the young generations of students of schools, colleges and universities of our country are highly encouraged by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam to build the future India which can challenge the world in all fields of sciences, technologies and management sciences, NERIST is organizing an Interaction Session of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam with school children from different schools of the capital complex of Itanagar, on 3rd August, 2010 at Darbar Hall in the Rajbhawan of Arunachal Pradesh.


The Convocation function and Convocation Address by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam on 4th August, from 09.45 hours onwards, as well as the Interaction session of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam with school students on 3rd August, 2010, from 17.00 hours onwards will be live telecast by NERIST through the satellite channel of NE TV.

I really feel proud to be from the first batch of NERIST....I definitely regret to having missed our convocation....but definitely cherish such news where in President of India has been giving away the degrees to the passing out Neristians. I have been lucky to have worked with our former President very closely

Thats a wonderful achievement! I feel proud to have been a part of this legacy. As the first batch of the institute we were pioneers and braved the initial hiccups to see this day!! Would have loved to take part in the convocation if I had some prior information! Congratulations anyways!

It fills me with great pride to have been a part of the legacy that has culminated to this day. I am not only proud to be a NERISTian but wear it on my sleve everywhere I go. My heartiest congratulations to the young men and women who are passing out this year and wishing them all the success in their future endevours. Keep the flag flying high everyone.

Kaziranga National Park is agog with festivity as the 7th elephant festival begins on Monday.The four day long event will be formally inaugurated by forest and tourism minister Rockybul Hussain on Tuesday at a glittering function inside the park.The Kaziranga Marathon will mark the beginning of the festival and this would be followed by the opening of a fair by Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Chandan Brahma.The focus of attention on Tuesday will be a cultural procession. The Opposition Asom Gana Parishad is gearing up to fight the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. An ULFA cadre died at an encounter at Sarthebari area in Barpeta district on Friday evening.According to information, the encounter between the ULFA militants and a team of police and CRPF jawans took place at Na-Satra and the militant was identified Trailakya Deka.Acting on some specific inputs of ULFA presence in the area, a team of police and the CRPF jawans was launching an operation where they locked in an encounter with three ULFA rebels.Policman Younis Ali sustained was injured in the encounter. Police and security forces are looking for two other rebels who managed to flee from the spot.
A crucial AGP steering committee meeting has failed to clear its poll deal with BJP on a few vital seats. The meeting convened at the party headquarters on Thursday remained inconclusive as the seat sharing deal was not discussed in detail in view of some party obligation. The meeting would be convened again in a day or two to take a decision.In yet another development, the third front leaders comprising AUDF, CPI, CPM and NCP also failed to strike a deal for the upcoming Lok Sabha poll. Caught in a barrage of controversy Assam state Chief election officer has put in his papers and joined the Congress on Sunday.According to information, C K Sarma who has been working as the state's chief election officer is seeking Congress ticket for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Assam truck owners may go on an indefinite strike, if the Meghalaya Government fails to curb 'illegal check gates' in the State.In a memorandum to Meghalaya Chief Minister, the Goalpara District Truck Owners Association said despite repeated requests, the government has not taken any to abolish the unauthorised check gates, pollution testing centres and weigh bridges on NH-62.They further gave a list of such illegal check gates in the Garo Hills region of Meghalaya and threatened to call for an indefinite 'chakka bandh' if the Mehalaya Government failed once again to take action against them.
