Second convocation of NERIST on August 4

The North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology attained 25 years of its existence witnessing different stages of development. The unconventional modular pattern of technical education of NERIST has proved itself worthy and highly successful in that pattern. The Institute has attained the Deemed University Status in the year 2005. The Institute has celebrated its Silver Jubilee Year in the year 2009 on March 4. The First Convocation of NERIST was addressed by Her Excellency the President of India Smti Prativa Devisingh Patil, on April 1, 2009.


NERIST is all set for its second convocation scheduled for August 4. Former President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam has kindly consented to deliver the Convocation address and award Gold Medals and Degrees to the successful students in the fields of sciences, technology and management. His Excellency the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Gen. J. J. Singh, who is also the President of the NERIST Society, Prof. Gautam Baruah, Director of IIT-Guwahati and who is also the Chairman of NERIST Board of Management, and a host of other dignitaries are slated to grace the occasion.


NERIST shall award I5 M. Tech, 10 M. Sc. (FO), 12 MBA, 171 B. Tech. and 11 B. Sc. (FO) degrees, including 10 Gold medals for the year 2009, and for the year 2010, 11 M. Tech., 11 M. Sc. (FO), 34 MBA, 125 B. Tech. and 15 B. Sc. (FO) degrees, along with 10 Gold medals, in the Convocation on 4th August, 2010. This year NERIST will also be awarding its first Ph. D. degree to a Computer Sc. and Engineering scholar.


Besides the above, Diploma Module and Certificate Module pass out students of both 2009 and 2010 batch are going to get their diplomas and certificates.


As known to everybody, the young generations of students of schools, colleges and universities of our country are highly encouraged by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam to build the future India which can challenge the world in all fields of sciences, technologies and management sciences, NERIST is organizing an Interaction Session of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam with school children from different schools of the capital complex of Itanagar, on 3rd August, 2010 at Darbar Hall in the Rajbhawan of Arunachal Pradesh.


The Convocation function and Convocation Address by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam on 4th August, from 09.45 hours onwards, as well as the Interaction session of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam with school students on 3rd August, 2010, from 17.00 hours onwards will be live telecast by NERIST through the satellite channel of NE TV.

I really feel proud to be from the first batch of NERIST....I definitely regret to having missed our convocation....but definitely cherish such news where in President of India has been giving away the degrees to the passing out Neristians. I have been lucky to have worked with our former President very closely

Thats a wonderful achievement! I feel proud to have been a part of this legacy. As the first batch of the institute we were pioneers and braved the initial hiccups to see this day!! Would have loved to take part in the convocation if I had some prior information! Congratulations anyways!

It fills me with great pride to have been a part of the legacy that has culminated to this day. I am not only proud to be a NERISTian but wear it on my sleve everywhere I go. My heartiest congratulations to the young men and women who are passing out this year and wishing them all the success in their future endevours. Keep the flag flying high everyone.

AGP surrenders before BJP: Himanta

Assam Congress leader and health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma says the main Opposition AGP virtually surrendered before BJP when both the parties struck seat sharing deal in Delhi. AGP holds steering body meet to clear candidates

Assam House clears Rs 1,85,056 crore interim budget

The Assam Assembly has cleared a Rs 1,85,056 crore interim budget for April to July 2009 after it was tabled in the House by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who is holding the finance portfolio on Satrurday. Gogoi presented the Vote-on-Accounts in the brief one-day budget session as the government could not lay the full budget for 2009-10 with the Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha elections slated from April 16. In the one day session, the House further passed the Appropriation Bill relating to the interim budget by voice vote.Gogoi said his government was giving wide publicity in the newspapers of the schemes to make the people aware of these. The United Liberation Front of Asom says Indian citizenship has nothing to do those struggling for an independent Assam.In its mouthpiece Freedom, the banned insurgent outfit has made it plain that they left Indian citizenship right from the day they floated the outfit aiming at an independent Assam to make an end to the colonial rule with an era of exploitation. The clarification has come up a week after Assam Public Works, an NGO demanded cancellation of Indian citizenship for ULFA chief Paresh Baruah if he fails to come forward for talks before the upcoming Rongali Bihu.

Third Front meets in Guwahati to strike poll deal

The Asom United Democratic Front, NCP, CPI, CPM leaders are holding a crucial meeting in the city of Guwahati on Saturday to finalise the seat sharing deal for the upcoming Lok Sabha poll in Assam slated for April 16 and 23. The third front constituents earlier this month decided to strike the deal seeking a non Congress and non BJP government. Notably, the move for a third front came up as AGP started its confabulations with BJP. 4 killed in DHD(J) attacks in NC hills

Altogether four persons were killed as suspected DHD(J) militants shot dead the parents of two of thier former colleagues in North Cachar hills district on Friday morning.According to information, a few miscreants entered into the house of Men Dimasa at Tidik under Maibong police station bordering Arunachal Pradesh border. AGP denies joining NDA

Hours after BJP called Asom Gana Parishad an NDA partner, the regional party has made it plain that the deal is confined to seat sharing only. Fellowship to study on ‘Pavement Dwellers of Guwahati’

Guwahati Press Club with the support from ERD Foundation, Guwahati has declared a short term fellowship programme to study various aspects of pavement dwellers (primarily beggars) of the city. The one and half month long fellowship is expected to provide space for the journalist to go for an in-depth study (and report) about the issue. ULFA reblel killed in Hajo

A suspected ILFA cadre and a civilian died in two separate incidents of firing at the Bhoiratoli village under Hajo police station on Wednesday night.According to information, two suspected ULFA militants shot dead a farmer at around 8 in the evening forcing police and army to launch a masive manhunt. Police and army personnel raided the village and it resulted in an encounter where the suspected ULFA rebel died. A nine M M pistol has been recovered from him. The manhunt for the second culprit is on.
