Second convocation of NERIST on August 4


The North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology attained 25 years of its existence witnessing different stages of development. The unconventional modular pattern of technical education of NERIST has proved itself worthy and highly successful in that pattern. The Institute has attained the Deemed University Status in the year 2005. The Institute has celebrated its Silver Jubilee Year in the year 2009 on March 4. The First Convocation of NERIST was addressed by Her Excellency the President of India Smti Prativa Devisingh Patil, on April 1, 2009.


NERIST is all set for its second convocation scheduled for August 4. Former President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam has kindly consented to deliver the Convocation address and award Gold Medals and Degrees to the successful students in the fields of sciences, technology and management. His Excellency the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Gen. J. J. Singh, who is also the President of the NERIST Society, Prof. Gautam Baruah, Director of IIT-Guwahati and who is also the Chairman of NERIST Board of Management, and a host of other dignitaries are slated to grace the occasion.


NERIST shall award I5 M. Tech, 10 M. Sc. (FO), 12 MBA, 171 B. Tech. and 11 B. Sc. (FO) degrees, including 10 Gold medals for the year 2009, and for the year 2010, 11 M. Tech., 11 M. Sc. (FO), 34 MBA, 125 B. Tech. and 15 B. Sc. (FO) degrees, along with 10 Gold medals, in the Convocation on 4th August, 2010. This year NERIST will also be awarding its first Ph. D. degree to a Computer Sc. and Engineering scholar.


Besides the above, Diploma Module and Certificate Module pass out students of both 2009 and 2010 batch are going to get their diplomas and certificates.


As known to everybody, the young generations of students of schools, colleges and universities of our country are highly encouraged by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam to build the future India which can challenge the world in all fields of sciences, technologies and management sciences, NERIST is organizing an Interaction Session of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam with school children from different schools of the capital complex of Itanagar, on 3rd August, 2010 at Darbar Hall in the Rajbhawan of Arunachal Pradesh.


The Convocation function and Convocation Address by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam on 4th August, from 09.45 hours onwards, as well as the Interaction session of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam with school students on 3rd August, 2010, from 17.00 hours onwards will be live telecast by NERIST through the satellite channel of NE TV.

I really feel proud to be from the first batch of NERIST....I definitely regret to having missed our convocation....but definitely cherish such news where in President of India has been giving away the degrees to the passing out Neristians. Thats a wonderful achievement! I feel proud to have been a part of this legacy. As the first batch of the institute we were pioneers and braved the initial hiccups to see this day!! Would have loved to take part in the convocation if I had some prior information! Congratulations anyways!

It fills me with great pride to have been a part of the legacy that has culminated to this day. I am not only proud to be a NERISTian but wear it on my sleve everywhere I go. A huge cache of arms and amminuion were seized during a joint operation by army and police from Mohanbari area at a from forest on Monday. According to information, acting on a tip-off, the team seized the explosives along with five gelatin sticks, a grenade, a pistol, 55 live cartridges of AK-47 assault rifle, five battle fatigues and a map of the airport from Tingkhong area. The arms, kept buried in a polythene bag, are suspected to belong to the ULFA's elite strike force 28th battalion. Police suspect that the proscribed ULFA had plans to blow up the airport, one of the busiest in the Northeast, on the insurgent outfit's 'Martyrs' Day' on July 28.
Two hardcore NDFB rebel was killed another captured at an encounter in Guwahati on Monday. According to information, the encounter took place at 2-30 in the afternoon at Moragaon area in Guwahati when police launched an operation in the area. The captured terrorist was injured and was rushed to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital for treatment. Three suspected NSCN rebels were killed in an encounter with a joint force of the Army and police in Lakhimpur district of Assam on Monday. The incident took place in the morning at Harmoti area border Arunachal Pradesh. According to information, acting on a tip off a joint team of polic and army launched an operation in the area and thus the encounter came up. Arms were also recovered from them after the encounter in midnight. The insurgents exchanged fire with the security forces at Harmoti before they were killed on the spot. Three 9-mm pistols - two US-made and a Chinese one - three magazines, eight live rounds of ammunition and two mobile sets were recovered from the slain ultras....
The Journalists’ Forum of Northeast India (JFNI) has strongly condemned the attitude of militants of the region, who have been trying to dictate the media for many years. Referring to the present conflict between a section of militants and the media persons of Manipur, the regional forum has extended its full support to the decisions adopted by the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU). AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi says only the infusion of fresh blood would make the Congress party more vibrant. Bokakhat MLA Jiten Gogoi was arrested again on Friday in connection with three more fresh cases. Gogoi was granted bail by a local court recently after he was remanded to judicial custody. He as arrested charging him with assaulting a forest officer on duty at the Kazianga National Park. He is expected to be produced before the court very soon. Details are awaited.
