Protest Rally at Haflong

In protest against the brutal assault upon the innocent indigenous people of North Cachar Hills and gross violation of Human Rights by 17 J&K Rifles and the early bifurcation of North Cachar Hills District into two Autonomous district, the Indigenous Women Forum (IWF)organized a Protest Rally at Haflong on Friday. Thousands of members belonging to IWF took out a procession starting from N. C. Hills Autonomous Council rotary to Sambudhan Statue, and then they approached the Deputy Commissioner to submit a memorandum to the Union Home Minister detailing all the incidents from July 2nd week to July 27th in several villages under Mahur Police Station. Then they proceed to the 44 Mountain Brigade at Haflong where they also submitted a copy of the memorandum to the Commander, 44 Mountain Brigade. The Army official assures the representatives of proper investigation in pursuance of the complaint against the Army atrocities. In the memorandum the IWF demanded the 17 J&K Rifles must be transferred from North Cachar Hills immediately as a confidence building gesture to restore the faith of the common people on the Administration. . The victims must be adequately compensated and their treatment must be fully borne by the administration. North Cachar Hills District must be bifurcated as per sub-para 1(2) and sub-para 1, 3(C) of paragraph 1 of Article 244(2) under the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India at the earliest for a permanent solution to the problem faced by the indigenous people and to ensure their dignity and survival.

Strong resentment was expressed by the Dima Halam Daogah (Jewel) over the army atrocities on its cadres those are staying at their respective designated camps at Maibang, Jatinga, Kapurcherra and Haflong communicating office on July 10.
