Manpower crisis, lack of vehicles, poor infrustructure hit Chaparmukh

In view of growing criminal activities, the Chapormukh Police Outpost was set up to curb the same many years ago.Unfortunately, manpower crisis,lack of vehicles, poor infrustucture are the three major problems being faced by the Outpost since its establishment. This police outpost which alone rendering services to 16 villages and more than 40 kms. area without having even the minimum facilities in their hand.


The police outpost is functioning from a small abandoned house consisting of three small rooms with cracked walls,broken roof. Of the three rooms one is for the In-Charge (IC),one for office use and the other for quarter- cum- kitchen.


Besides the IC , the police outpost has only 3 constables,1 nayak,and 1 Home Guard personnel though it requires at least 10 constables to look after the security of the vast area. Moreover,there is no any female Home Guard personnel or constable for which the outpost faces a lot of problems in visiting the cases related to women.


The Chapormukh Police Outpost is also facing the problems of vehicles. Many a times cases related to police are visited by vehicles hired by the policemen of this outpost.It is learnt that the amount paid to the hired vehicles is always arranged by the policemen themselves.


There is no toilet,latrine and water supply facility at the outpost.It is also crying up for a telephone and a generator.There is no additional room in the police outpost where criminals arrested by the police personnel can be interrogated and the seized vehicles can be kept. Though the outpost IC made several requests to the top police officials to look into their problems but to no avail.


According to the information,the police personnel of this outpost get regular information about the various crimes that happen under its jurisdiction ,but they can not go for raid or investigation as the outpost has no vehicles.


The locals of the area,however,said this correspondent that despite the numerous problems faced by this outpost , the IC Shankar Das, constables Mafidul Islam, Khagen Nath, Nipen Gogoi, nayak Biren Pathak, and Home Guard Jagannath Deka are doing their level best to serve the people of the area.

One held for extortion bid

Acting on a tip off , Raha police on Tuesday arrested one person for trying to extort Rs 8 lakh from one Kanak Nath of Sariohtoli village under Raha revenue circle. Narrow escape for Cong leader

Woman murdered in Raha

A 29-year-old married woman was murdered at her residence at Uttar Petboha village under Raha P.S on Thursday night. Sharp weapon injury marks were found on the neck, breast, and stomach  of the victim,Paree Saikia. When the neighbours reached the spot, the victim was lying on the bed and she had deep slits on her throat. During the investigation by police, it was discovered that nothing was looted from the house, which led them to suspect a personal dispute as the reason. The husband of the woman was not at home when the murder took place, neighbours said. AASU leader passes away

Tapan Das , Headmaster , Nelipar Primary School and a former leader of Raha unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU)  who actively participated in Assam agitation passed away at his house at Chaparmukh following prolonged illness on Tuesday. He was 54. A popular personality of the area, he was loved and respected by all sections of people for his amiable disposition. He leaves behind his wife, a son and a daughter. A pall of gloom descended at Raha and Chaparmukh as soon as the news of his demise spread. Different organisations, including Raha AASU unit have mourned Das’s demise.  

Training on soil held at Nagaon

A two days officers training programme on ‘Soil Health Card’ was organized recently at the Regional Agricultural Research Centre ( RARS ) Shillongoni, Nagaon. Body found on train at Chaparmukh

The body of a man was found on a train that arrived at Chaparmukh junction from Tinisukia on Sunday, police said. The body, found under mysterious condition, was identified as Kiranjyoti Hazarika of Philobari, Tinisukia district. According to Chaparmukh railway police, the deceased was on his way to Guwahati from Tinisulia by the Brahmaputra mail. The cause of the death is yet not confirmed.

Paralyzing bandh in Raha

Normal life remains heavily paralyzed in Raha following a 12 hour bandh by the various local organizations who are dead opposed to the proposed AIIMS in North Guwahati instead of central Assam. Road blockade for AIIMS

The Nagaon-Guwahati Highway  remained closed as the Middle Assam AIIMS Demand Committee blocked the NH 37 at Raha Chariali for one and half hours on Thursday. An escalating tension grips Raha when the authorities deployed heavy security forces on Wednesday a day before the road blockade demanding the proposed AIIMS in this central Assam place instead of Changsari in the outskirt of Guwahati. Continuing its tirade against the setting up of AIIMS hospital at Changsari, Middle Asom AIIMS Demand Committee ( MAADC ) on Sunday  announced a series of agitation against the  state government and state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma.
