Guwahati : The Cape Town-Kuala Lumpur Merdeka Expedition 2007 convoy arrived in Guwahati in Assam under tight security provided by the Indian army.
The Bernama journalist who followed the expedition team found that sniffer dogs were used to ensure that the vehicles used by the team were free of bombs. It is also learnt that the tight security was aimed at ensuring that the convoy would not come to any harm while on their journey.
The expedition entered its 28th day of travel today and is expected back in Kuala Lumpur in time for the Merdeka celebrations. Yesterday, the convoy left Siliguri a town situated in the Himalaya Valley.Although some parts of the road were riddled with potholes, the team was still able to enjoy the beautiful countryside of padi fields, rivers, lakes and jute plantations.
The convoy in on its way to Imphal, a town on the India-Myanmar border, 545km from here, after the visit to Siliguri.
