Bisnu Rabha Divas observed in Nagaon


Dristi Sanskritic Gosthi, in association with Asom Batori - a fornightly newspaper of Assam, observed Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha Divas with two-days programme at Swahid Bhawan in Nagaon on June 20 and 22. On June 20, the members of Dristi Sanskritic Gosthi paid floral tribute to Bishnu Rabha's portrait and lightened earthen lamp. An art competition was also held among the children at morning. On June 22, an a public meeting was held at Swahid Bhawan. The meeting was presided by senior journalist of Nagaon Kanak Hazarika. Prithivi Raj Rabha attended the meeting as the chief guest. Beside them, the additional deputy commissioner of Nagaon PK Talukdar, Abhay Baruah (President of Asom Kabi Sanmilan, DTO KC Hazarika and poet Paran Baruah also attended the event. In the meeting, Prithivi Raj Rabha urged the students to follow the path of Bishnu Rabha. He broadly expressed about the student life of Bishnu Prasad Rabha. He moreover expressed that he like to present his speech as a common man, not as the son of Bishnu Rabha. He requested the students to study about the life of Rabha and it is very much necessary to know about Bishnu Rabha because he was not only an artist, singer, dancer ,politician but also a social reformer. Bishnu Rabha's love for the common people were also highlighted in his speech.At the mid of the meeting, a magazine "Dristi" was also released which contained the writings of eminient writers and poets of Assam. The meeting was concluded with the prize distribution. Asom Batori honoured 6 of the writers,poets ,a photographer and a youth journalist as Asom Batori award 2010. They honoured Jibeswari Bora( poet), Kushal Hazarika (Writer), R.Kataki (poet), Mrs Khanam (writer), Simanta Talukdar (Photographer) and Gokul Sarma ( youth Journalist).More than 300 audience gathered in the open meeting.


In the evening, a cultural extravaganza held at the same venue in which the local artistes and the invited cultural troupe of Songs & Drama division, Govt. of India entertained the audience.
