DDK Guwahati to starts weekly environmental programme from June 5
Doordarshan Kendra, Guwahati will starts weekly environmental programme from June 5 to mark the World Environment Day. The duration of the programme will be half an hour. Dr. Krishna Gopal Bhattacharjya, Professor of Chemistry Department of Gauhati University, Dr. Hari Prasad Sarma, Readar of Environmental Science Department of Gauhati University, Jaideep Barua, Head of Environment Department, Assam Science Technology & Environment Council and Mowsam Hazarika, Editor, Bijnan Jeuti will discuss about the various environmental issues of Brahmaputra on the first episode of the programme, which will be telecast from 3.30pm on 5.6.2010. The programme will be produced by Bibhu Dutta on behalf of Doordarshan Kendra, Guwahati .

The Union cabinet on Wednesday approved an institute of Indian Agriculture Research Centre in Assam. Presided over by prime minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, the meeting cleared the proposal to set up the country’s premier institute at Gogamukh in Dhemaji bordering Arunachal Pradesh. Sources in Dispur said that the Assam government had also proposed a huge plot of 587 acres in Gogamukh for the project. Many organizations in Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts have thanked the state and Centre for clearing the decks.
