A two day training programme on preparation of ethnic Assamese snacks and delicacies was inaugurated on 10 April, 2010 by Prateek Hajela, DC , Kaup (Metro) at Handique Girls College. The programme was jointly organized by North East Girl Students Association and North East Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NEDFi) in collaboration with Girl Empowerment ion and Career Guidance and Training Cell of Handique Girls College.
The programme was organized with the objective of acquainting the young girls about the various unique technique and skill of preparing various types of ethnic Assamese delicacies including pithas, laddus, baked items etc. About 100 participants from 34 different institutions of various parts of the city is taking part in the training. Munmi Dutta , President of North east Girl Students Association welcomed the Guests and participants .
The programme was also attended by Dr Suchitra Kakaty, Chairperson of Assam State Comion for Protection of Child Rights, Chetana Das, renowned Artist , Oli Bora, DGM, NEDFI, Kirip Chaliha, Former MP , Dr D Bhatacharjee, OSD, IIPCAT, Dr V. Bhattacharje, Regional Director , IGNOU , Dr. A. Chakraborty, Vice Principal, Handique Girls College, Zerifa Wahid, popular film actress, and several other prominent persons.
The training was conducted by Mohini Barua, Nijara Hazarika and Rita Kakati , who imparted hands on training on preparation of various ingredients of Til pitha, coconut pitha, laopula, ghila pitha etc.
There was great enthusiasm amongst the participants who took active part in the training. A colourful Cultural programme was held at the closing function. The programme was sponsored by NEDFI and co-ordinated by Nabajit Dutta, Director of ion for Girl Empowerment for promoting and popularizing ethnic culture amongst the young generation.
