Workshop on Citizen journalism and new media held

A workshop on citizen journalism and new media was held on March 23 at Handique Girls College, Guwahati. The workshop was organised by Assam Times in collaboration with North East Girl Students Association (NEGSA). Students of Handique Girls College, Krishna Kanta Handique State open University were participated in this event. Talking about new media Babul Gogoi, editor of Assam Times said that it helps common people spread news and information easily. He said that people without professional training on journalism can now use new media tools to inform one another. Banamallika Choudhury of from Action Aid, Guwahati, and photo joutrnalist Utpal Baruah, and Suresh Ranjan Gaduka, editor of Jiban magazine were also present in this workshop and spoke various topics related to citizen journalism.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) today recovered brown sugar weighing over 1 kg from the possession of three drug peddlers in the Kamakya Railway station, Guwahati this afternoon.According to GRP sources, the trio brought the brown sugar from Manipur and was heading towards Allahabad to sell it further. The estimated cost of the contraband in the international black market is around Rs 1 crore. The trio have been identified as Md Nurul Haque (39), Md Farooq Alam (27) and Md Anif (31), the GRP sources confirmed.In another incident, the GRP also seized ganja weighing 34 kilograms and arrested three persons in this connection.

Suspected DHD(J) militants have killed two more workers engaged in railway broad gauge construction work in North Cachar Hills district on Monday. According to information, the incident took place on at Migraindisa under Mahur police station at around 11-30 am. The North Eastern Council has begun its two-day plenary session in Agartala on Monday. Inaugurated by Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DONER) Mani Shankar Aiyar the meeting is being attended by all Chief Ministers and Governors of the region, barring Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
