Assam Farmers Felicitated By GOI
Three farmers and one farmers’ organization of Assam has felicitated by the Department of Agriculture & Cooperation, Government of India on 26th February last at Vigyan Bhaban, New Delhi for their excellent contribution towards agriculture, informs Mowsam Hazarika, ADO((information), Directorate of Horticulture & Food Processing, Assam. The name of the farmers’ are- Abdul Halim, Goalpara; Montaz Ali, Bongaigaon and Mohammed Abdul Khalek, Nagaon. The name of the farmers’ organization is ‘Mainao Agro Multipurpose Self Help Group, Kokrajhar’.
Sharad Pawar, Minister of Agriculture, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution present in the occasion and paid tribute to the enduring spirit of Indian Farmer. Total hundred and one farmers from all over the country were felicitated in the occasion. In this context, a coffee table book, namely, ‘Harvest of Hope’, published by the Department of Agriculture & Cooperation, Government of India also released in the programme. The success story of all the hundred and one farmers included in this pictorial book. Sharad Pawar, Minister of Agriculture, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India ceremonially given the Felicitation Memento and the coffee table book to all the hundred and one farmers. Mohammed Abdul Khalek, Nagaon could not attend the programme, due to some personal problem. On return from New Delhi , Abdul Halim, Goalpara and Montaz Ali, Bongaigaon said that adoption of the guidance given by the officials of state agriculture department is main factor behind their success. Recently they are very much benefited by adopting system of rice intensification in their field, they revealed.

Bina Hazarika, noted writer and social activist , passed away at Marwari Maternity Hospital, Guwahati on November 5, 2015. Born in Goalpara in 1932, she was married to Late Tara Prasad Hazarika, noted freedom fighter. She leaves behind her sons, daughter-in-laws, grandsons, granddaughters and a host of relatives and admirers. Her cremation at the Bhootnath crematorium was attended by a large number of mourners.

1st Assam International Agri-Horti Show 2014 will begin from Wednesday at Guwahati. Participants include the America, Italy, China, Myanmar, South Africa, the UK, Laos and Israel. "This is the largest conference cum exhibition in the agriculture and horticulture sector in the North East. It will showcase the strength of Assam in cultivation of different varieties of crops," said Agriculture Minister Nilamani Sen Deka.
