ULFA publicity secretary Mithinga Daimary was freed on Thursday 48 hours after he procured bail from a local TADA court. The jailed ULFA top gun who has been languishing in Guwahati after he was captured in Bhutan during Operatrion All Clear, was freed on Thursday in presence of his family members who later took away him to his birth place Barama in Nalbari district of Assam. His release is significant in view of the stepped up efforts to hold talk between government and the ULFA. Another ULFA leader vice chairman Pradeep Gogoi is also set to be freed in a day or two. His was also granted bail on Tuesday by a TADA court which is considered to be a significant steps for holding talk with the government.
Curfew in Rangiya was relaxed from 7 in the morning to 7 on Sunday evening. Shops and markets were open in Rangiya town even as security forces continued to maintain strict vigil. But the situation is tense. There have been no reports of any fresh incidents in the past few hours. Meanwhile, one more special train reached Guwahati this morning from Bangalore carrying around 800 passengers.
