Distance learning centre open in Barpeta

A distance and Open Learning Centre namely Sankardev Distance and Open Learning centre was opened at Barpeta by the Srimanta Sankardev Sachetan Mancha at Barpeta Vidyapith HS school under Krishna Kanta Handique State Distance and Open Learning Centre of Assam which is affilated by the UGC Guwahati university and Central Distance and open Learning Centre.


Mentionable that this institute is for those students above 18 years of age who have been deprived of getting the academic education in the institutions due to various problems. In the inaugural function of the institute was inaugurated by Dr. KishoriMohan Pathak, ex- Vice chancellor Tezpur Central University with the lightening of the lamp. In this meeting Rajat Baran anta, register, Krishna Kanta Handique state open university was present as the chief guest and Dr. Ankuran Dutta, Academic Adviser, , Mass Communication Department, KK Handique state Open University. In thier address duo speaker spoke about the importance and facilities of an open university and how the deprived students have been benefited by the courses that was in this distance education. The meet was presided over by Dalim Pathak, president, Srimanta Sankardev Sachetan Mancha, Assam whereas Akshay Kr. Misra, literatuer, Atul Ch. Goswami, principal, Yuthos Junior College, and Hirendra Nath Sarma, principal, Barpeta Vidyapith HS school were also took parrt as the honorable guests. The welcome address was delivered by Arjun Ch. Das, Ex- principal, M.C. College, Barpeta. The people of Barpeta also hope ful that such type of open and distance learning centres must help the students

The Mobile Health Unit under NRHM was opened here at Barpeta today to provide the health service to the deprived people of the district. DC Barpeta, Phanidhar Kalita, flagged off the service at the premises of Joint Director of Health Services. The Barpeta district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding the development of the govt. educational institution of Barpeta district. Two dacoits were killed in an encounter at Jalakura bridge at Keotkuchi, about 4 km from Barpeta yesterday night. According report, a group police personnel headed by the ASP, DSP and TSI of Barpeta got information about the dacoits and they are awaiting for them at that place. As soon as they arrived the police try to catch them, but the encounter took place between the police and the dacoits. As a result two dacoits were killed and other fled away. The DSP of Barpeta Sushanta Biswa Sarma with the police personnel of Barpeta and Kalgachiya i/c recovered fake notes worth Rs.11500 of 500 denominations from a one Alam Ali of Madrasapara of Kokila outpost in Barpeta district yesterday. The money was recovered at Barvitha near Kalgachiya. According to report, the business of fake currency was on going during last few days in the entire district.
