Once again the best of the music talent in the Northeast will get a chance to showcase their immense talent in the newly released album The Great Eastern Rock Volume 2 which have hit stands. This time 17 bands have been chosen out of 723 entries to be featured in this album which is available free of cost with TNT-The Northeast Today Magazine.
'The first Great Eastern Rock CD had a tremendous response and we were all pleasantly surprised with the response of the readers of the magazine and the music fans and we have taken note of all the recommendations to ensure that this album is better than ever' says Geetharatha Mushahary who also works as the talent spotter in the TNT team. With entries from as far as Singapore, Sweden, USA and also different parts of India, it was a task which was not easy and finally we narrowed down to17 tracks which, according to me, is the best balanced record endores Gareth Lyngwa - who is one of the many people behind this concept. With almost no sponsorship coming by the entire cost of the CD and the Print work was borne by the The Northeast Today Magazine and as Rajoo Sharma, the Managing Editor says, 'This album came out because of our genuine love for music and not just a marketing ploy, we did not get any sponsors this time though they made all the promises before, about promoting talent in the Northeast so we decided that we will still go ahead because thats what our heart said'.
This time the album features two bands from Assam- Silver Tears and Dark Horizon. The other bands in the album are Atiar, Northwind, Eye2Eye, Horjwlai, Infinite Ashes, Dima Project, Recycle, Polyticks and Girish Pradhan amongst many others. ‘We decided to give the CD free without any added cost because we would like the fans to avail the copy without any added cost and our aim is to promote and not to make money’, says Joe Lanong, one of the talent spotters for the GER Vol 2. The Editor and Publisher of the Magazine P.B.K Manikya Deb Burman who himself is a huge music fan said that TNT –The Northeast Today will continue to strive and promote talent from the Northeast and give the bands a platform to be heard beyond just the region. We are the largest circulated magazine from the Northeast and we are now also available in the Metro’s and Nepal so the impact of this will be huge.
It may be mentioned that the magazine also covers current affairs, sports, environment, travel and politics amongst various other topics.

ULFa has killed a gaonburah in lower Assam’s Udalguri disitrct on Sunday afternoon.. According to information, the goanburah of Dolongghat Khagendranath Deka was shot dead at Bhakatgaon by two motorcycle born youths. Later ULFA’s 27 Battalion has owned up the responsibility. Despite a simmering situation along the Assam-Meghalaya border, Assam health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has laid the foundation stone a Primary health centre at Langpih, a place in Kamrup district which is claimed by Meghalaya. Majuli is set to be declared as a world heritage site on June 6. According to information, the decision to this effect would be formally approved at the UNESCO meeting slated for June 6. Good news. Really a good news for the state government employees as the Assam Government has set up the Sixth Pay Commission headed by former Union Secretary Bhaskar Baruah. A notification issued to this effect, said that the panel will examine the principles governing the structure of emoluments and conditions of the state government employees. Five Assam Rifles jawans in Jorhat have been arrested and sent to jail on Saturday for trying to kidnap a girl while she was on her way back to home after enjoying a Bihu festival.According to information, five jawans of the Assam Rifles were trying to molest some five girls at Garmurh area in Jorhat at around 11-30 on Friday night. A few girls were on their way back to their homes after attending a Bihu festival. The jawans from the Lekhapani camp tried to forcibly give them lift them on their gipsy. They even lifted one of these girls and took away from the G K Palace Hotel at Garh Ali. On the way, the jawans halted following an accident of a car. All they went to rescue the car....
The Gujjar row is gradually spreading to the north eastern region with the embattled community getting ready to launch a Rajasthan like an agitation in a day or two.Talking to a news agency on Saturday, a Gujjar representative Bhai Gujjar said the Rajasthan Government has betrayed the Gujjars adding that neither the state Government nor the Centre has been listening to them.The Gujjar leaders in the entire north eastern region hold a meeting in the city of Guwahati on Friday and chalked out a programme to join the protests.The Gujjars of the region have already sought permission from both the Assam Government and Meghalaya Government to allow them to sit in peaceful and democratic stir.
Army have picked up one Kamala Rajkonwar in upper Assam's Sivasagar district in the wee hours on Saturday. According to information, Rajkonwar, a 52 year old person is a MASS leader and a PCPIA activists, was picked up by Army's 316 Field Regiment from his house and was later handed over to Mathurapur police station.
