5 killed in mishap at Raha : burnt into ashes
5 persons were killed in a tragic road accident when the Indigo car they were travelling hit with a concreate wall by the NH -37 , at Phulaguri under Raha Police station. The car immediately burnt into ashes soon it hit the concreate wall. The lifeless bodies are still not identified as they turned into ashes. According to Police, the mishap took place at around 1 am today and the car was on the way to Nagaon from Guwahati.
The deceased identified as Pranjal Phukan, asst. General Manager Kalidian tea estate, his wife Dr. Rubi Borthakur who was a lecturer of Digboi women's college and their two daughters Nishita and Rwiti. They all belong to one family where as the fifth occupant of the vehicle was identified as Pradip, their domestic help. The registration number of the vehicle that went up in flames was AS-01-AK-3980.

Tiwa Students on Friday burnt the effigy of Rama Kanta Dewri in Raha to protest the recent attack on two of their colleagues. The students of Raha and Barapujia thronged the National Highway at Raha and burnt the effigy of the TAC chief. Led by ATSU president Prahlad Mosrong, the students further demanded Dewri’s arrest in this connection. Notably, the student body on Thursday called for the 12 hour central Assam bandh in this connection.
The 12-hour middle Assam bandh called by All Tiwa Students' Union (ATSU ) today passed off peacefully at Raha and its neighbouring areas Dharamtul, Ahatguri, Chaparmukh,Barapujia, Phulaguri, Demow without any untoward incident. Two persons sustained injury when a vehicle carrying them met with a mishap near Raha in Nagaon district on Monday. The mishap took place at Bagariguri at 7.30 in the morning. Identified as Moidul Islam and Hibzur Rahman, the injured were rushed to the Nagaon Civil Hospital.
