BSNL employees observes 48 hours strike

The public sector telecom company BSNL witnessed total shut-down of
work today, when its BSNL Employees Union members under the banner of
United Forum of BSNL Unions observed 48 hours strike in support of
their long pending demands. Beginning at mid-night zero hours of 19th
August it will continue till next 48 hours and if their grievances not
settled, they can extend the strike periods, said striking members.


Their major demand includes immediate settlement of wage revision of
non-executives, implementation of promotion policy, job confirmation of
about 4000 casual workers etc. While Promotion
Policy is implemented for executives, the same is not implemented for
non-executives even though an agreement has been signed last year.
Despite clear government orders, the wages of contract workers are not
fixed. BSNL retirees are denied their due pensionary benefits.


Today the 401 members strong BSNLEU Nagaon unit had totally shut-down
the office and all the other SSA in assam namely Kamrup, Tezpur,
Silchar, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Bongaigaon witness the same scale
protest by strength of 4399 agitating members. In Nagaon, the strike is
leaded by local chapter District Secretary S H Raja.


In addition to its employees union ongoing strike, the additional
impact on services are bound to be affecting subscribers of BSNL as
their young engineers under banner of All India Graduate Engineer’s
Telecom Officer Association ( AIGETOA) already observing indefinite
hunger-strike from all over the country at their New Delhi Corporate
office since 18 August’09.

The theatre regime continues to enthrall Nagaon crowd with variety plays each comprising diffferent aspect of life in it. The latest to join the band-wagon here are 'Rajshree Theatre' which is going to host 3 days show from March 25 at local Nehru Bali field. The play to be enacted includes Champak Sarmah's 'Bali', Jiten Sarmah's 'Saraighat' and Hemant Dutt's 'Sapanur Phool'. The music will be composed by Vijaylaxmi-Hemant Thakuria duo.
