Karmachari Parishad protest against government at Barpeta Samaroh

All Assam Karmachari Parishad protest against the enhancement of the Bhaskar Barua-led Assam Salary Commission for the second time. Protesting against the failure of the Commission and for the demand of the submission of the enhancement of the salary package of the state government employees in teh lines of central govt employees from the year 2006, All Assam Karmachari Parishad held a huge gathering at Barpeta Madhab Choudhury College premises on July 14. Addressing in this meeting Basab Kalita, Secy, All Assam Karmachari Parishad said that it was a unfortunate matter that not only the salary commission but not even a single commission of state government could not be able to submit their report in proper time. He added that despite the last few years cooperation of All Assam Karmachari Parishad by increasing work culture and also endeavourance of solving various problems, the state government increasing the time of the salary commission which actually depressed the state government workers.

Two ULFA 709 battalion cadres were killed in an encounter at Nasatra village under Sarthebari PS in Barpeta district yesterday at about 1 pm. One of the dead person was identified as Pingal Deka, son of Gangadhar Deka of Nasatra village and the other dead cadre was not identified till filing this report. The additional sessions Judge FTC (First Track Court), Barpeta sentenced one Pranab Nath of Howly village in Barpeta district under U/S 448/380/302 IPC imprisonment for life in connection with a murder case. According to report, on June 12, 2006, the accused entered into the house of one Ananta Roy of Bamundi village under Sarthebari, Barpeta dist and killed the son of the family with sharp weapon and had taken Rs.2000/ and some ornaments from their house. Ananta Das lodged an FIR before I/C Howly on June 13, 2006.
One person died and about 20 others injured in a bus accident at Kaljhar, near Howly in Barpeta district today at around 4 pm. A Tinsukia-bounded bus (No- AS-01-V1367) set out from Barpeta Road met with the accident at Kaljhar on No.31 National Highway near Howly. The deceased was not identified till filing this report. The injured passengers were sent to Howly PHC and Barpeta civil hospital.

The mighty river Beki eroded most of the part of Jania area in Barpeta district. At present it has become a threat to the Jania xatra. About 35 houses have been collapsed. The new committee of Indian Medical Association (IMA), Barpeta was formed recently at "BARK DIOGNOSTIC CENTRE" in a general meeting. Normal life in entire Barpeta district paralyzed due to irregular load-shedding by the Electricity Board. Out of twenty four hours electricity is available only three to four hours a day. Twenty one injured in a road accident at Sonkuchi Colony of Barpeta town today at about 7.40 am. According to report, a Dhuburi-bound highspeeded Bolero pickup FB (No-AS-15 C 0699) vehicle lost it's control and 21 labours of that vehicle were injured.
