A citizens’ meet at Guwahati Press Club on Friday called upon the people of Assam to write letters in the form of an appeal to the Chief Justice, Gauhati High Court to constitute a special investigation team (SIT) to go into the Parag Kumar Das murder and find out the culprit. The meeting, organized by the Journalists’ Forum, Assam (JFA) and presided over by JFA president Rupam Baruah, also requested the letter-writers to appeal to the Chief Justice to consider their letters as public interest litigation. The citizens urged the High Court to monitor the SIT probe, keeping in view the loopholes left by the CBI in its charge-sheet.
In yet another appeal, the well-attended meeting requested the people to hand over to the family of Parag Kumar Das any conclusive or useful proof that could strengthen the case against the accused in a higher court. The meeting was addressed among others by advocates Santanu Bharali, Santanu Barthakur and S. K. Saharia, journalists Hiten Mahanta, Prakash Mahanta, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria, Sabita Lahkar, Anupam Nath and Mukul Kalita and social workers Jayanta Gogoi and Jaharlal Saha.

I just want to ask those people who was involved in the assacination of the great PARAG KUMAR DAS. What was the significant devolopment being happend after that.We are same as earlier what we was even more backward.You killed that person who want to see our Assam in the sky in all point of view so you had killed not only PARAG DA but also Assam's Dreem.No body will excuse you.

I worked with Parag during 1986-87 time frame. He was such a nice gentlemen and I am sure he cannot think of anything negative about any body. Parag was a Patriotic person and for that he paid dearly by his life. By this he attained martyrdom. May his soul rest in peace. The killers should be punished for what they did.

Kaziranga : One rhino was drowned at Kohora Range in Kaziranga National Park. This is the first reported death of any big animal in the park after floods submerged more then 60% of the park area. Officials believes that the rhino actually died at lest one week ago and was over aged. The horn was intact which proved that it is not a case of poaching.
Guwahati : A Leopard killed one teenaged boy and injured five others on Wednesday in Upper Assam's Dibrugarh district. Police sources informed that 11 years old Dhirsai Garh, son of Maheswar Garh of Bhadoi Panch Ali went to bring back his cattle herd on Wednesday evening when a leopard attacked him. Guwahati: Army fatigues (olive green stripes) have been banned in Assam from 1st of August in view of the Independence Day on 15th of August 2007. Every year it is observed that the State witnesses an escalation in violence before the Independence Day celebrations and it is easy for militants to wear army fatigues and mingle with the crowd. Guwahati: Guwahati High Court on Wednesday stayed the appointment of 13,318 numbers of Anganabadi Workers in the Social Warfare Department. This would have been the biggest appointment in the second term of the Tarun Gogoi led Congress government. The Social Welfare Department had published a selection list to fill up vacancies in 6659 centers located in various places of the state a few days back. Post this advocate Rita Devi had filed a writ petition at the High Court alleging discrimination in filling up of these vacancies. Guwahati: Popular singer Zubeen Garg and many others joined hands to save Kaziranga National Park, the home of the one horned Rhinoceros in Upper Assam.
