An evening of goodwill


”Durgat Kalyan Nyas”,a Kalaigaon based NGO distributed study materials and financial assistance to five very poor students, who had shown excellence in the recent HSLC and HSSLC examinations 2009.A formal ceremony was arranged on the occasion at the premise of the office of the Circle Officer, Kalaigaon on July 25 at 3pm which was presided over by DN Hazarika,Circle Officer, Kalaigaon and Harisinga Revenue Circle.Social worker and secretary of the “Nyas “,Lohit Chandra Nath highlighted the activities of the “Nyas” since 2007. He said that the “Nyas” was formed on May 7 2007 to provide assistance to poor and needy people particularly the students. According to him members of the organization headed by DN Hazarika distributed study materials to nearly 800 student victims of the recent ethnic violence, that had taken serious turn in Darrang and Udalguri district. Noted “Ban Geet” scholar and singer Arabinda Pathak of Guwahati in his speech as the guest of honour thanked the organizers for such a great mission of charity.


The five recipients of the assistance were -Sabita Kalita of Barangabari village; Rameswar Deka of Naharbari village;Himjyoti Tamuli of Udmari village;Rehana Begum of Dakhin Bokrajhar village and Pompi Debnath of Tangla.It needs mention that all the five students had passed their respective board examinations /09 in first division with letter marks in various subjects.The parents of all the students were too poor to support their wards continuing their studies. Tears of gratitude seemed roll down from the eyes of the students as they had spoken a few words in turn. But all of them expressed their determination to show better results in future.Dandi Rava,MCLA,BTAD;HB Deka,Asstt.Branch Manager,U.CO. bank, Kalaigaon; social worker Kami Ram Saharia also spoke a few words on the occasion.The meeting was also attended by Jiban Saharia,principal, Kabirali HSS; social worker Mahendra Saikia and Imran Hussain,president,Kalaigaon Press Club.Kamal Prasad Sarma,Mouzadar,Kalaigaon offered vote of thanks at the end.
